Historia
In the Dream House is Carmen Maria Machado's engrossing and wildly innovative account of a relationship gone bad, and a bold dissection of the mechanisms and cultural representations of psychological abuse. Tracing the full arc of a harrowing relationship with a charismatic but volatile woman, Machado struggles to make sense of how what happened to her shaped the person she was becoming. And it's that struggle that gives the book its original structure: each chapter is driven by its own narrative trope - the haunted house, erotica, the bildungsroman....

Historia
In Liz Coley's alarming and fascinating psychological mystery, 16-year-old Angie Chapman must piece together the story of her kidnapping and abuse. Pretty Girl-13 is a disturbing - and ultimately empowering - pause-resister about accepting our whole selves, and the healing power of courage, hope, and love.

It started out ok.

Everybody thinks they know Cole's story. Stardom. Addiction. Downfall. Disappearance. But only a few people know Cole's darkest secret - his ability to shift into a wolf. One of these people is Isabel. At one point, they may have even loved each other. But that feels like a lifetime ago. Now Cole is back. Back in the spotlight. Back in the danger zone. Back in Isabel's life. Can this sinner be saved?

Great addition to the series!
Revisado: 07-09-14
Where does Sinner rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I really enjoyed this. I think that the narrators really are perfect for the characters. I was completely immersed in the story and had a hard time hitting pause. I enjoyed the other books in the series, but always wanted more Cole and Isabel. They are so interesting, separately and together.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Sinner?
There are some great scenes that show Cole and Isabel's vulnerability that I thought were great. I always enjoy Cole being a smartass too, and we get a lot of that here.
Any additional comments?
Narrating perfection. Dan Bittner could read the phone book and make it sound good, but he really stands out with a character like this. Emma Galvin is also great as Isabel.

Today is Leonard Peacock's birthday. It is also the day he hides a gun in his backpack. Because today is the day he will kill his former best friend, and then himself, with his grandfather's P-38 pistol. But first he must say good-bye to the four people who matter most to him: his Humphrey Bogart - obsessed next-door neighbor, Walt; his classmate Baback, a violin virtuoso; Lauren, the Christian homeschooler he has a crush on; and Herr Silverman, who teaches the high school's class on the Holocaust.

Award-winning author Melina Marchetta reopens the story of the group of friends from her acclaimed novel Saving Francesca - but five years have passed, and now it's Thomas Mackee who needs saving. After his favorite uncle was blown to bits on his way to work in a foreign city, Tom watched his family implode. He quit school and turned his back on his music and everyone that mattered, including the girl he can't forget. Shooting for oblivion, he's hit rock bottom, forced to live with his single, pregnant aunt; work at the Union pub with his former friends; and reckon with his grieving, alcoholic father.

What did you love best about The Piper's Son?
The story, the characters...pretty much everything.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I loved Tom, and enjoyed revisiting the characters from Saving Francesca. Interesting to see where everyone was at in life, 5 years later.
Have you listened to any of Michael Finney’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I would love to listen to more by him!

Historia
Today is Jack's 18th birthday. Here's what's happened so far.... He woke up from a dream about dissecting frogs and measuring the bubbles produced by llamas. He just missed a call from Bob, his grandmother. He's not sure she'll remember he exists - which makes him sad, because he really loves her. He's thought about jumping out of the window. Not because he wants to die, mind you, but some attention would be nice. Jack's cell phone rings a second time. He recognizes the number. Jess. He never thought he'd hear from her again. Jack's day is about to get epic.

Good narrator, but...
Revisado: 01-28-14
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A better story. More believable, less philosophical BS.
Did MacLeod Andrews do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Yes, the narrator was the best part of the book.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The narrator was good.
Any additional comments?
I was hoping for a quirky book, but this was absurd at points. The only reason I kept listening was because the narrator was good and I hoped it would redeem itself. I never cared about the characters, and found the story dull and often rolled my eyes. I think it was just trying too hard to be meaningful.

Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life - and she's really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow Series when they were just kids; it's what got them through their mother leaving. Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere. Cath's sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can't let go.

Loved It!
Revisado: 01-28-14
Would you consider the audio edition of Fangirl to be better than the print version?
I listed to Rainbow Rowell's first YA book (Eleanor and Park) and fell in love with it. When I heard that this one would have the same narrator, I knew I'd have to listen to it also. I haven't read the print version to compare, but I absolutely love Rebecca Lowman's narration! I also enjoyed the 'fanfic' parts read by Maxwell Caulfield. It was a good way to separate that part of the story from the actual story.
What did you like best about this story?
The awkwardness of Cath. It felt very real.
What does Rebecca Lowman and Maxwell Caulfield bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I think the fanfic portion of the book would have been a little less exciting in print. Having Maxwell Caulfield read it made it really stand out.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes! But at the same time, I didn't want it to end.
