Historia
By the mid-fourteenth century, the world empire founded by Genghis Khan was in crisis. The Mongol Ilkhanate had ended in Iran and Iraq, China's Mongol rulers were threatened by the native Ming, and the Golden Horde and the Central Asian Mongols were prey to internal discord. Into this void moved the warlord Tamerlane, the last major conqueror to emerge from Inner Asia.

Historia
Drawing from both Christian and Islamic sources, Reconquest and Crusade in Medieval Spain demonstrates that the clash of arms between Christians and Muslims in the Iberian peninsula that began in the early eighth century was transformed into a crusade by the papacy during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Successive popes accorded to Christian warriors willing to participate in the peninsular wars against Islam the same crusading benefits offered to those going to the Holy Land.

Historia
The Viking Age - from 750 to 1050 saw an unprecedented expansion of the Scandinavian peoples into the wider world. As traders and raiders, explorers and colonists, they ranged from eastern North America to the Asian steppe. But for centuries, the Vikings have been seen through the eyes of others, distorted to suit the tastes of medieval clerics and Elizabethan playwrights, Victorian imperialists, Nazis, and more. None of these appropriations capture the real Vikings, or the richness and sophistication of their culture.

Fantastic information with oddly placed politics
Revisado: 03-25-23
This book was excellent. The greatest source of viking information I've yet found on audiobooks. Performance is equally brilliant.
The only think I found odd and misplaced was the author's several attempts to interject LGBTQIA+ discourse. It comes up several times in the book and each time it feels extremely forced and seems to be all conjecture, no evidence.
There's an entire section where it goes into detail about how Vikings commonly killed homosexual couples, often brutally because Viking men believed the act to be feminine. He provides ample evidence of this. Then, in the next section, there's a very forced part where he tries to suggest LGBT played a possible larger role...with very little evidence at all. It came across as very forced and uncessary for the otherwise excellent book.
