The dialogue is horrid, the dramatization forced and ridiculous. Do not waste your time. This seems thrown together, and is a sketch of a bad novel.

Megan Basham’s courage in writing this book is commendable. Leftist ideology has captured many evangelical churches and institutions. The moving conclusion demonstrates that this is not just a political statement for her, or from a contentious spirit. The cheap gospel is no gospel at all, and without hard truths the church loses her mission.

In his quest to remove the judgment of God and dismiss the call to repentance, Manning repeatedly judges those whom he finds lacking. Manning's universalism is a false gospel. Avoid.

Excellent work based on thorough research and many interviews. Shrier’s careful analysis makes clear parents, schools, medical and mental health professionals need to provide children with the help they truly need, not simply letting them self-diagnose. Required reading for anyone with a daughter.

This book is poorly constructed, and doesn’t match the title. There are a number of anecdotes about Billy Waugh, told in mind-numbing detail. Don’t waste your time.

Shallow treatment of a deep issue

This book reads like a collection of high school papers. Frequent citations of websites, indiscriminate quotations from authors, no synthesis of major ideas.

The narrator is annoyingly unserious. He slips into a southern drawl when voicing a demon, and uses other hillbilly accents when voicing a quoted source.

Cardinal Sarah has moments of great insight and spiritual depth. Regrettably these are buried beneath shallow exegesis and spurious cliches. Among the disappointments are the historical inaccuracies related to clerical celibacy. The argument for papal supremacy has no depth at all. His antagonism toward America and democracy, and papering over the evils of Russian aggression, make his “conservative” theology at home among today’s Marxists.

The narrator is competent for general reading, but the frequent mispronunciations of ecclesiastical terms, and particularly Latin phrases, made it difficult to listen to at points.

Decent concept ruined by incessant snark

The idea behind this book is terrific. However, there is almost no appreciation (it does come out in a very minute way toward the end) of the purpose behind these projects: scientists trying in every way they can to serve their country and save lives. Not just every story, but seemingly every paragraph is told with sneering condescension. The snark gets old very fast, and it is magnified by the author himself dripping contempt into the narration. Houghton would have benefited from a good editor, and someone else reading the book.

This amazing book is expertly narrated. It in many ways is my perfect book: a murder mystery in a monastery, with medieval politics, ecclesial intrigue, an obsession with language and texts, a mysterious library, and forbidden love. Eco was a genius.

Justice on Trial is a thoroughly researched, gripping account of the nomination, character assassination, and Senate hearings for SCOTUS Justice Brett Kavanaugh. This book reads like a thriller, while conveying substantive background on the key players and relevant history of the Supreme Court. The authors do an exceptional job arguing for a depoliticized nomination/confirmation process.

The narration by Hemingway and Severino is very well done; I appreciated hearing the book in their own voices.
