If you are looking for some sort of payoff, save your credit for now. The author writes well and is beginning to build an interesting world, but this is very much like reading the first third of a regular book. The author does have a good track record, but I'd hold off for now until more books in the series are released to see if it will be worth your tins.

So confused with the good reviews

This book has an interesting premise, but the execution absolutely destroys it. No character growth, complete lack of background details, inconsistent world building (this takes place in the early 1900s but the characters talk like they are straight out of the 2020's), the life and death challenges take about 5 minutes to get through, insta-lust and love between the two main characters who have no depth beyond the roles they are initially assigned. This gives bad fan fiction a good name. Not recommended, and will be returning. It's a shame since the premise sounded interesting and the reviews were great. I'm just baffled.

Continued Excellence

This series continues to improve. It's space opera, epic fantasy, sci-fi, political intrigue, world building all expertly done and crafted into an incredible story... no middle book slumps, no filler, no cheap tricks to keep you going, just fantastic writing, characters, and plot. Don't miss this one! I barely ever write reviews despite how many books I listen to, but this series deserves one.

Mostly set up, too many Bobs too much time apart.

Another great Bob book full of the usual humor and antics. There are really two downsides...

There are beginning to be too many Bobs to keep track of, especially with the long wait between books. If you can't remember which Bob is which and what factions each belongs to, you might want to go back and listen to the last book again.

The other downside is that this book is primarily setup for a larger plot line to follow in upcoming books. Hopefully the wait won't be as long or the author will include a refresher in at the beginning of future books. You really are dropped right back in, so if it's been a while, expect a bit of confusion as there are multiple Bob POVs and even more as important supporting characters.

Underrated fantasy

No middle book syndrome here. This series is incredibly overlooked and is highly recommended for anyone looking for a well written, fantastically built world in epic fantasy.

One of the best LitRPG

This remains an absolute top tier LitRPG with excellent writing, editing, world building, and narration. Even for people that don't typically like the genre, this is still a very enjoyable fantasy and coming of age series. All 4 books so far are highly recommended! Give it a try! It doesn't disappoint, and the story and characters remain fresh even 4 books in.

Yikes. Not for adults.

A trained psychic/cold reader who can't read a thing. Incredibly rushed and underdeveloped for more or less nonexistent tension that... serves no real purpose? And you know the writing is lacking when you just listened to multiple LitRPG serials-turned-audiobooks that put this to shame. Not that the first book was amazing, but there is massive step down in the writing quality and character development. It's a shame since the parts that could have been more engaging were squandered completely, and there is no supporting cast to bolster the weaknesses in the mains (no supporting cast at all, in fact).

I'm assuming the author is very young, and I'm sure the younger teen crowd will still like this quite a bit. But if you are an adult listener, don't waste a credit. Some YA books hold up excellently for adults as well, but this is certainly not one of them.

Self-contained story warning

This is a fun LitRPG series that, with a stellar performance, stands above most of its peers. But for people looking for self-contained books, this might not be your cup of tea. All books in the series just stop randomly due to the serial nature of the original publication process.

Middle Book Syndrome

Compared to the first two entries of the series, this does definitely suffer from a bit of a middle book syndrome throughout the beginning. It never really dips below a 3 star, but the last 1/3 pulls through and leaves you wanting more. And compared to its competitors in the same genre, this series stands out as one of the best entries.
