Disappointing.
Revisado: 05-07-25
I really enjoyed Farrow’s work in other matters, but he latches on to Doane’s conservative leanings and proceeds to beat the listener over the head with it and his subjective opinions on politics. He could have the same thing when he investigated Harvey Weinstein and his substantial ties to the Democratic Party, but didn’t.

This is a work of fiction that takes certain facts from real cases. It’s sloppy, lacks cohesion, and is without structure or guidance.

Historia
On July 4, 2022, a shooter climbed onto a rooftop in Highland Park, Illinois, and opened fire on a Fourth of July parade below, killing seven people and wounding dozens more. Prosecutors charged Robert “Bobby” Crimo III with the mass shooting. But this attack was part of something even more insidious. Bobby had created an elaborate game—complete with cryptic videos, a book of numbers, and an eerie online presence—designed to seed a conspiracy theory about the massacre.

Terrible podcast-like audiobook. Very uninformed.
If you’re going to write and provide a narrative, educate yourself. What a waste of time and attention. Just terrible.

Historia
On December 30, 1999, in rural Oklahoma, 16-year-old Ashley Freeman and her best friend, Lauria Bible, were having a sleepover. The next morning, the Freeman family trailer was in flames and both girls were missing. While rumors of drug debts, revenge, and police collusion abounded in the years that followed, the case remained unsolved, and the girls were never found.

Missed Opportunity
Revisado: 02-14-25
This could have been a very interesting read. However, the author’s proclivity to write this as fiction instead of true crime really destroys its potential. Way way too much time spent on speculative detail, and not nearly enough effort on the facts. This was a very disappointing waste of time.
The Irish author spends a lot of time stereotyping the individuals as midwestern rednecks, and very little time on facts.
I really wouldn’t recommend this story to anyone, unless one wants to learn how not to write non-fiction true crime.

Historia
In the U.S. Marine Corps, the most dangerous job in combat is that of the sniper. With no backup and little communication with the outside world, these men disappear for weeks on end in the wilderness with nothing but intellect and iron will to protect them - as they watch, wait, and finally strike. But of all of the snipers who ever hunted human prey, one man stands above the rest as the most legendary fighting man to ever pull a trigger. That man is Carlos Hathcock.

Incredible True Story.
Revisado: 02-10-25
This is really one of the best war stories out there, and follows the story of a man that was one of the last great heroes of the 20th century.
This is actually a second part of Marine Sniper and works just as well as a stand-a-lone title. RIP Carlos Hathcock.

Historia
The Red Army had much to avenge when it finally reached the frontiers of the Third Reich in January 1945. Frenzied by their terrible experiences with Wehrmacht and SS brutality, they wreaked havoc - tanks crushing refugee columns, mass rape, pillage, and unimaginable destruction. Hundreds of thousands of women and children froze to death or were massacred; more than seven million fled westward from the fury of the Red Army. It was the most terrifying example of fire and sword ever known.

An Absurd Tall Tell
Revisado: 01-31-25
More fiction than fact. While some of this story may be factual, much of the story is embellished, inconsistent, and non-sensical. The military and medical references are not based in reality. For a marine corpsman, the medical references are not even close to accurate. The author seems confused about whether he’s in the marines or navy. He’s kind of an idiot.
The prison story is pure unadulterated B.S. Really can’t believe a publisher would publish this as a factual account. It’s so false, it was a challenge to get through.

Historia
Comedians Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld never thought anyone would watch their silly little sitcom about a New York comedian sitting around talking to his friends. NBC executives didn't think anyone would watch either, but they bought it anyway, hiding it away in the TV dead zone of summer. But against all odds, viewers began to watch, first a few and then many, until nine years later nearly 40 million Americans were tuning in weekly.

Starts Strong, Ends Abysmal.
Revisado: 01-09-25
Really the best parts of this book are like listening to an audio version of notes about nothing. However, the writer cannot wait to get to the end so she can go off the rails. She takes a good and rich story about the show and turns it into a useless political diatribe at the end. At times she mocks people who claim that entertainment has become too politically correct, and doesn’t even address public statements by Seinfeld and others that have complained publicly that they cannot entertain because the climate is too politically correct.
The narrator isn’t bad per se, although it gets irritating listening to her change her voice to sound like how she thinks an individual should sound, when it isn’t even close to the reality. Really makes you wonder if she has any idea who she is talking about.

OMG Emm, This Title Sucks!!!
Revisado: 12-19-24
A millennial book that goes no deeper than a surface view of everything. Really, a shallow one sentence synopsis of every subject discussed. Plenty of other titles out there discuss these cases.
Really the book is a platform for Christine Scheifer to talk about her favorite subject….herself. This book is filled with what you would expect from a millennial author, hypersensitivity, narcissism, and overt political correctness. Don’t waste your time.

Interesting Story Told in a Scatterbrained Manner.
Revisado: 12-06-24
Should be told as a book. The podcast performance is way too stream of thought.
Hearing the author repeatedly trying to use the lingo of a Jersey Shore cast member adds a bit of humor. Think Mary Poppins reading Robert Deniro’s lines in Midnight Run.
