Historia
Lyla is in a bit of a rut. Her post-doctoral research has fizzled out, she’s pretty sure they won’t extend her contract, and things with her boyfriend, Nico, an aspiring actor, aren’t going great. When the opportunity arises for Nico to join the cast of a new reality TV show, One Perfect Couple, she agrees to try out with him. A whirlwind audition process later, Lyla finds herself whisked off to a tropical paradise with Nico, where the two of them will compete against four other couples in order to win a cash prize. But not long after they arrive, things start to go wrong.

Historia
Ice is everywhere: in gas stations, in restaurants, in hospitals, in our homes. Americans think nothing of dropping a few ice cubes into tall glasses of tea to ward off the heat of a hot summer day. Most refrigerators owned by Americans feature automatic ice machines. Ice on-demand has so revolutionized modern life that it’s easy to forget that it wasn’t always this way—and to overlook what aspects of society might just melt away as the planet warms. In Ice, journalist and historian Amy Brady shares the strange and storied two-hundred-year-old history of ice in America

A good effort but fell short
Revisado: 07-26-23
The narrator was annoying to listen to - all sentences ended up with the same phrasing and fake excitement. Some sections were interesting, like the types of ice for sports , but the section on modern refrigerators was way too long and veered off into a rant about climate change. Several of the topics stretch their connection to ice - the boom could have been a couple of hours shorter.

Historia
According to the accepted narrative of progress, humans have thrived thanks to their brains and brawn, collectively bending the arc of history. But in this revelatory book, Professor Jonathan Kennedy argues that the myth of human exceptionalism overstates the role that we play in social and political change. Instead, it is the humble microbe that wins wars and topples empires.

Worth a read especially the early chapters
Revisado: 07-04-23
Early chapters fascinating. Political commentary of the later chapters obscures the argument and makes the book less compelling.

A bit far-fetched...
Revisado: 11-10-20
Male reader was excellent. Female reader not so much. The story had some great twists and turns but ultimately was rather drawn out and unbelievable.
