This by far, in my opinion, is the best Kristin Hannah novel. I liked it even more than The Women.

Historia
Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Elsa must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.

Perseverence

While I know many of the events actually happened during the great depression, I found this book to be my least favorite Kristin Hannah book. at times I wanted to stop because it was just so incredibly sad. If you like Kristin Hannah, I think it’s worth the read, but this is my fourth book of hers that I’ve read, and it was good but not great for me.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Historia
Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now 15 and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears.

I didn’t know anything about this book. I liked the title. It amazes me the hate, and the cruelty that we have in this world. The author of this book told the story so eloquently. How people survived mentally, and emotionally is nothing short of a miracle. It was a beautiful story. I encourage anyone that is interested to read this book.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

I enjoyed this book from the first chapter. Since I listened to it, I must say that the narrator is probably the best I have ever heard. She made me laugh when we were supposed to, she made me cry when the time was right I go back-and-forth reading and listening. This is one that I am so glad I listened to. I had no idea this was the authors first book. I look forward to the next one, whatever it may be. I would recommend this book to anyone, especially women, who have worked so hard to achieve their goals.

I very much enjoyed the story. Any woman that has had friends can definitely relate. I thought the performance was done well also. The only thing I was disappointed in is that I felt the ending was a little too tidy in my opinion life is not that tidy. Overall a very good read.
