Historia
In the dead of winter, outside a small Minnesota town, state troopers pull two young women and their car from the icy Black Root River. One is found downriver, drowned, while the other is found at the scene - half-frozen but alive. What happened was no accident, and news of the crime awakens the community's memories of another young woman who lost her life in the same river 10 years earlier and whose killer may still live among them.

Complex With Hints of Woolf
Revisado: 06-14-24
Johnston’s writing reminds me of Virginia Woolf’s in its eponymous flow from inner thoughts and characters’ choices. The Audible production does the book justice although the speed is very slow.

Historia
Lirael has never felt like a true daughter of the Clayr. Abandoned by her mother, ignorant of her father's identity, Lirael resembles no one else in her large extended family living in the Clayr's glacier. She doesn't even have the Sight, the ability to See into the present and possibly futures, that is the very birthright of the Clayr.

Most entertaining
Revisado: 01-21-23
Liriel makes me laugh and reflect simultaneously. Tim Curry does a great job of enlivening the characters, particularly Mogget and the Disreputable Dog.

Historia
In the dark, wintry highlands of Lochdubh, Scotland, where the local Calvinist element resists the secular trimmings of Christmas, the spirit of old Saint Nick is about as welcome as a flat tire on a deserted road. Nor is crime taking a holiday, as Constable Hamish Macbeth soon finds himself protecting an unhappy girl, unlocking the secrets of a frightened old woman, and retrieving some stolen holiday goods. Now the lanky lawman must use all his Highland charm and detective skills to make things right.

Short and Warm
Revisado: 12-08-22
This was the first story I listened to of Beaton’s Hamish Macbeth series, which fueled me to listen to the rest. This story gives a quick introduction to Macbeth, the village and its characters, and background to understand the sub-stories. I love Graeme Malcom’s easygoing narration because it gives an impression I’m coded up to a fire listening to a master storyteller.

Hugh Grant is terrific!
Revisado: 12-07-22
The story goes without saying. The wit, the charm-all Dickens without too much verbosity. Hugh Grant renders the characters perfectly. Loved his rendition!

Renowned as much for her wit and satirical social commentary as for her stories of love and romance, Jane Austen remains unfailingly relevant and one of Britain’s best loved authors. In this Audible Original collection, an all-star list of narrators (Billie Piper, Claire Foy, Emma Thompson, Florence Pugh and Gugu Mbatha-Raw) capture Austen’s pin-sharp humour and tone in these dramatisations of her six beloved novels accompanied by a full cast.

Good!
Revisado: 12-30-21
Having read Jane Austen’s novels many times, I enjoyed hearing them dramatized by Audible. Although the stories are not read exclusively by one narrator and parts read by a character instead, they were all very enjoyable. Northanger Abbey is particularly good.
