Not interesting
Revisado: 09-17-18
Too slow, the characters are unlikable and the situation is unbelievable. I listened to about the first two hours and just lost interest. Although there was lots of action and stuff going on, it just meant nothing to me.

Some of it was interesting...
Revisado: 03-09-14
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Maybe if he/she was a sports fan.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
At least half the book was a long boring (to a non-sports fan) litany of sports trivia about people I know and care nothing about. Some of the other parts were mildly interesting but superficial.
Least interesting: sports, old TV shows and other show business trivia.
Which scene was your favorite?
There were no real scenes, basically just a list. The parts about New Coke and the Segway were slightly more interesting.
Could you see Worst Ideas Ever being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No.
Any additional comments?
Mildly amusing but mostly a waste of time.

One of the most enjoyable books I've listened to
Revisado: 04-02-13
If you could sum up The Forgotten Garden in three words, what would they be?
Fascinating, compelling, intriguing
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Forgotten Garden?
Near the end when all the strands begin to come together
Have you listened to any of Caroline Lee’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, I wanted to stretch it out as long as possible.
Any additional comments?
Although the story moves back and forth through time, it was never confusing and it was fun putting the clues together as it went along. I don't listen to "romances" very often but the touch of fantasy mixed with mystery made it very enjoyable.

Historia
It began well - an experiment in techniques to teach high-risk children - poor, minority, children - the life-strategies that will allow them to succeed in life. And not just succeed, but overcome the odds and become wildly successful. They chose as their model a man who had done it all - Alexander Marcus, a black man who raised himself up from poverty to become one of the wealthiest, most powerful men in America. The imprinting is effective. The children are focused, driven. They are inventive, intelligent, and love learning. But there is a mysterious darkness to them - a ruthlessness that is surprising.

Very odd narration
Revisado: 03-20-13
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
a better narrator
What could Steven Barnes have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I've read Steven Barnes' books in the past and enjoyed them. This one just didn't work for me. I didn't care about the characters. and after listening to about two thirds of part one the story didn't seem to be going anywhere - Just a series of incidents with unrelated characters doing uninteresting things.
What didn’t you like about Barrie Buckner’s performance?
His voice is too rough and has an odd rhythm. Everything is at the same tone with a stress on about every fourth or fifth word no matter what the meaning.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Boredom
Any additional comments?
I would be willing to try another Steven Barnes book with a different narrator.

Historia
For more than four decades, biblical experts have tried to place the story of Exodus into historical context - without success. What could explain the Nile turning into blood, insects swarming the land, and the sky falling to darkness? Integrating biblical accounts with substantive archaeological evidence, The Parting of the Sea looks at how natural phenomena shaped the stories of Exodus, the Sojourn in the Wilderness and the Israelite conquest of Canaan.

Very detailed and interesting
Revisado: 07-02-12
What made the experience of listening to The Parting of the Sea the most enjoyable?
An interesting alternative view of the Exodus story. Although I've encountered some of the ideas before, This book explains and supports them well.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No - it's very detailed. It took me about 3 or 4 parts to take it in - then I listened again.
