66 hours of adventure

66 hours of awesome adventure!
Narration was on point. I noticed a few mistakes in editing in the third book, but overall, this trilogy was done very well.
The story itself seemed to develop very well. It felt like I had grown up with these characters. One of those stories you love to see the conclusion of, but never wanted to really end.

Fantastic story, even greater performance.
Revisado: 09-29-17
As far as The Sundering series goes, The Sentinel is easily one of the best parts.
To top off the wonderful, riveting story, Marc Vietor's performance is arguably one of the best I've experienced in any audio book.

Historia
In the fourth book of the multi-author Sundering series launched by New York Times bestselling author R.A. Salvatore, Richard Lee Byers introduces Anton Marivaldi - a renowned reaver with an insatiable thirst for bounty and a moral compass that always leads him toward the evil he's never tried. Endless, pounding rain afflict the Sea of Fallen Stars and the coastal regions surrounding it. Harvests are failing, travel and trade are disrupted, and civilized forces are giving way to the deluges caused by the storms.

"Struggle" doesn't begin to describe this title.
Revisado: 09-14-17
If Eugene H. Russell IV used his voice for action/thriller movie previews, I would be in full support. Although, as a narrator for a fantasy novel consisting of a number of characters from all over the realm, I hate to say, Eugene's two tone variations just can't cut it.
I fought, from beginning to end, to differentiate the voice of a character to just the narrator. By the end, it occurred to me that Eugene only has two tone variations: Narrator/Anton/most other male characters and then Everyone else... It seemed as though Eugene was either adding punctuation where there was none, or disregarding it all together. Pauses in mid-sentence, awkward inflections, making comments sound like questions, and just all around tones that don't fit the scenario.
I hate to be unnecessarily negative, but were I not already this far into the series, I would just give up here. The narration was dismal at best and the story was, well, just okay.
I've followed this series ever since discovering the stories of Erevis Cale, which led me to The Gateway to Sembia series where he was introduced. Following that to the Erevis Cale trilogy, then the Twilight War saga, I was then led to The Sundering, where Cale's story would continue. I enjoyed The Gateway to Sembia series and really liked the feel of having multiple authors all come together. While I haven't finished this series yet, The Reaver has been by far the least entertaining. That fact may have simply been caused by my distaste for the narrator and it may be worth picking up a physical copy. However, after all the adventures I've experienced throughout these series, pirates and vampires just seem so... basic. I'm not sure what it is, but this book just doesn't feel like it belongs in the same universe as all the rest. Of course it shares similarities in species and places, but being all about pirates, vampires, and undead just felt uncreative.
That being said, I'm interested to see how this series comes together like The Gateway to Sembia did. With as unrelated as each of these titles have seemed, it will be interesting to see how they really tie together. All I can do from here is continue on in hopes that Eugene H. Russell IV has no part in what is to follow...

Worth reading, maybe not listening...
Revisado: 09-12-17
If not for the great story, I never would have finished this audiobook.
Perhaps it was done in a rush, but this audiobook contains the worst editing I have heard in any Audible title. One chapter comes through clear, while another sounds as if the narrator is stuffing the microphone in his mouth. There are likely hundreds of moments where the narrator's voice changes volume and tone, as if adding audio over a mistake instead of just rereading the sentence or paragraph. But to make it worse, it's like they made these edits afterwards, so the narrator doesn't even remember what's going on and says it in a tone that is completely unfitting. You can hear, on many occasions, the narrator turn the pages of the book as he reads. At one point, sometime in the second book I believe, where there is no sound at all for about four and a half minutes. I still have no idea if I missed an important part of the story there. A few occasions I noticed where the narrator was cut off before the end of the sentence, leaving the listener wondering what on Earth is going on.
Because I found the story so interesting, I pushed through all the bad editing. It seemed that by the third book, the narrator got the hang of it all and really started to separate the characters with consistent accents. At first, he seemed to struggle with that, making it difficult to follow who was saying what or when he was speaking as a character or just as a narrator.
Aside from the cringe worthy editing and shotty narrating, the story was very good. Great character and story development. A ton of twists that I didn't foresee that left my mouth wide open. I even found myself not wanting the story to end (save for the horrible audio part...)
In the end, this book is definitely worth reading. Listening to, however, well I'll just say this might be the first title from Audible that I return...
