Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

Mediocre Story That Loses Itself
Revisado: 10-23-24
This story is pretty good for about the first 1/2 of the book but nose dives shortly thereafter. I’d say most of the 5 star reviews are from people who don’t often listen to audiobooks or their collection is small as this book is the definition of mediocre.
The last 1/3rd of the book is terrible. There are a few points at which the story could have ended but the author just keeps pressing on, for no purpose other than continuing on.
Just because one might like the musical doesn’t mean this a good book.

Surprisingly good short story

A short story that ties subtlety ties into the Dark Tower saga. A fun read and a good plot. Worth the time commitment. 5/5

While following the deserted I-70 toward a distant glass palace, Roland recounts a story about a seaside town called Hambry, where he fell in love with a girl named Susan Delgado, and where he and his old tet-mates Alain and Cuthbert battled the forces of John Farson.

I’m not usually a fan of love tales but this one was really good. The last third or so of the book is when it really starts to shine. Stuck with it and you’ll be rewarded. Highly recommended.

Historia
In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most powerful creations: Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York named Jake.

It could be a little difficult to track sometimes but towards the end it had more consistency. The narration is great and made for good storytelling. Looking forward to the second book.

Revisado: 04-17-23
Great book! I enjoyed the witty humor while also combining recognizable elements of Sci-Fi. Narration is superb, character development is good and with a strong plot. If you’re considering getting the book you should, worth the listen!

Historia
"Call me Ishmael." Thus starts the greatest American novel. Melville said himself that he wanted to write "a mighty book about a mighty theme" and so he did. It is a story of one man's obsessive revenge-journey against the white whale, Moby-Dick, who injured him in an earlier meeting. Woven into the story of the last journey of The Pequod is a mesh of philosophy, rumination, religion, history, and a mass of information about whaling through the ages.

Historia
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

In A Word: Anticlimatic
Revisado: 08-09-22
I was looking forward to this book quite a bit, but for me this was an unpleasant and often mediocre story. The narration of Lucy is something like nails to a chalkboard; just distasteful. The narration of Jonathon and Mina is good, however it is confusing to follow some of the journal entries because the characters impersonate the others, rather than letting the original voice actor speak during times of quotes and so forth. Dracula is a book that can be passed over or otherwise ignored. One would not be missing much. 3/5 stars.

Seeing self-possession as the key to an existence lived 'in accordance with nature', the Stoic philosophy called for the restraint of animal instincts and the importance of upright ethical ideals and virtuous living. Seneca's writings are a profound, powerfully moving and inspiring declaration of the dignity of the individual mind.

Historia
'Reason and imagination and all mental chatter died down... I forgot my name, my humanness, my thingness, all that could be called me or mine. Past and future dropped away... Lighter than air, clearer than glass, altogether released from myself, I was nowhere around.' Thus Douglas Harding describes his first experience of headlessness, or no self. First published in 1961, this is a classic work which conveys the experience that mystics of all times have tried to put words to.

Takes way to long to make a point, and then is over redundant
Revisado: 11-25-21
The take away is to have a sense or an experience of being totally present in this moment, and to remove the sense of self, sense of place, and the sense of being.
The book itself takes entirely to long to make this point and then goes in a recursive explanation. The message is good but the product itself is more than it ought to be. Too much redundancy.
