Historia
I’m a Gemini. Impulsive. Curious. Headstrong. A twin. Heir to a throne I know nothing about. And it turns out, I’m Fae. But of course, there’s a catch - all I have to do to claim my birthright is prove that I’m the most powerful supernatural in the whole of Solaria. And sure, technically that’s true, as I’m the daughter of the Savage King. But the bit they didn’t put in the brochure was that every single Fae in this Kingdom would claim my throne if they could.

DNF. Not my cup of tea.
Revisado: 04-02-25
Nice premise, likable characters. Just not my cup of tea. The whole “bullying” thing was ridiculous. How do you expect two, underprivileged, neglected girls who grew up speaking English to suddenly speak French? Or so that’s what it felt like the whole premise was for the bullying with their lack of knowledge of the Fae world.
The four heirs acted incredibly immature for people who are supposed to be groomed as heirs but they act like immature 11 yr old boys. But then again they’re supposed to be 17-18 yr olds.
The narrator did great though.

2nd book did not disappoint
Revisado: 02-23-25
The story, the world building, the characters (and there are a lot of good ones and loathsome ones), it’s very well written.
The narrator has done an excellent job voicing all the different characters.
It is scary how the things in this story are appalling to read about. Like what was done to the selkies, the forced child marriages (wandfasting), the religious zealousness, etc. because it mirrors the human capacity of vileness. It just makes me shiver because the misogyny, bigotry, racism in this book still happens so intensely today outside of fiction.

A drop of story, but it could be great.
Revisado: 01-19-25
I waited until I listen to the 2nd and 3rd books before I made a review. Those who’ve told me about this series have already told me to consider the 1st book as filler. Meaning there’s absolutely no real forward momentum and not even really an introduction to the main characters cause you only meet 2-3 main characters and the FMC is very secretive about herself anyway. And it’s not like you get a clear picture of their past or backstory either.
It feels like books 1 and 2 were meant to be just one book and somehow the 1st quarter of it was sliced out to be sold as the 1st book? Nothing truly happens in the 1st book. Again, I stress that very minimal momentum happens so don’t be disappointed. You’ve been warned.
With the said, I finished the 3rd book and overall books 2 and 3 are 5 stars. The story, the plot, the twists? Perfection. Sometimes it’s slow as molasses but there’s a great story there, promise. However, this 1st book is just “meh”.
If you feel the same way as I do, I urge you to read the following books in the series because the story itself is good. Just…the first book is a horrible way to stretch out a series. Don’t know if that was done for profit or what, but honestly if someone didn’t warn me about the 1st book I wouldn’t have continued with the series and I would have missed out on a great sorry.

Surprisingly enjoyed it
Revisado: 12-25-24
So when I read the reviews, I was a little hesitant to give this a try. I’m glad I did. Is the writing a little juvenile like other reviews said? A little bit. But it wasn’t horrible. Is there believable romance? Yes. Is there a fairly good plot? Yes. Are there likable secondary characters? Yes. Several. Is the story overall good? Absolutely.
The plot is sort of predictable and some surprises too. But was it enjoyable? Definitely.
Performance wise, terrific. Though the female narrator made me chuckle a little at her version of the MMC. But they both did a terrific job.

Enjoyed it.
Revisado: 12-19-24
The premise of the story is good. The world building enjoyable. You really do get to relate to the FMC in the beginning. But at some point there’s a disconnect.
I think for me it was this perfunctory romance between FMC and MMC. It just felt forced and no chemistry. It was like it was a requirement to have some kind of romance between FMC and MMC and hence a childhood friendship backstory and after reuniting “must have romance” but chemistry is dead-situation.
In fact, there’s more chemistry between FMC and Bonner.
Anyway, it was a good story and enjoyable but frustrating at times with Corwin’s POV because he suddenly doesn’t know how to stand up for himself against his brother. Yeah his brother is obtuse and filled with hate but speak up! It’s eye roll inducing, there’s absolutely no growth to that. Not even at the end. So there’s a lot of room for character growth.
I’m hoping to see that with the next book

Okay, so I get why people would dislike this if they’ve read Air Awakens series, because it completely unravels that story and make the trials and tribulations of the main characters in air awakens trivial.
However, if you read Vortex as separate from air awakens, it’s an okay story on its own.
But that’s just it. An okay story that used the bones of air awakens but didn’t add much flesh or meat to it, instead, rotted it from within. Which was disappointing with how ridiculous it got with the last 2 books.
It didn’t help that the narrator did a terrible job. There wouldn’t have been that much difference between using an AI voice narrator to be honest. It does help if you play it at 1.5 speed or faster. The fast forward button also helped a lot. 1st book was OK, 2nd ok so where getting somewhere, 3rd book, you can skip to the last few chapters. 4th book, you should listen to the first and last few chapters. Same with the fifth book.

Excellent story, but riddled with filler
Revisado: 11-14-24
The story itself is good. But I think this whole 5 book series could be better told in a more concise manner and reduced to 2-3 books instead.
This is book 4 so obviously the story itself is good since I’ve stuck with it for this long. It would be excellent if it wasn’t filled with unnecessary dribble. It doesn’t help that the narrator isn’t a good match either.
With that said, book 4 doesn’t really add much to the story. It can be skipped if you just read a synopsis to be honest. They still circle around the same problems/issues with not much momentum to the story. There’s very few revelations in this book that you haven’t already guessed at if you read books 1-3. It trudges along very slowly. VERY SLOOOOWLY. I’m hoping book 5 will have a faster pace but that is doubtful.

Surprisingly good.
Revisado: 11-11-24
The story itself is good. So is the world building. The characters are likable and flawed. The narrator is excellent.
The only thing that will likely deter readers/listeners is that it moves like molasses. Very slow pacing and author has a tendency to describe day to day activities that could have been left out and didn’t add to the story. It could have been stripped down 2-3 hours of unnecessary filler.
The first book, nothing much happens that isn’t already predicted by the reader. It’s easy to see where the story is going.
Book 2, is just as slow but at least there’s something that moves the story forward towards the end and finally they are headed toward the Fading Lands. Again, a lot of unnecessary filler.
I’m on book 3 about 25% in and it is just as slow. I’m hoping that something will happen to move the story forward but I think, based on reviews, it might be just as slow.
But I’m sticking with it because the story itself is good. There’s the fast forward button when there’s useless filler so that’s helping out a lot to get to the meat of the story.

Don’t know how it ends. DNF
Smutty, but not well written smut.
Low story, high s*x scenes. I don’t want to call it spice cause I got bored of the scenes after the 2nd one that I just skipped the other smut scenes cause it was pointless and didn’t add to the story.
The story? There really is none. It keeps circling over the same issue over and over and over. He’s afraid to let anyone in but pursues her quite strongly. As soon as he has her, he pushes her away and puts her in her -booty call only- corner.
He’s a giant red flag. They are both poor communicators. He’s someone you need to run away from IRL and she’s someone you shouldn’t emulate when it comes to gaslighting herself by rationalizing his actions. I had high hopes. It didn’t deliver.
The narrators were fine though.

Revisado: 10-16-24
Perhaps the other books will make this series better and I wanted to like it. It had a good start but meandered soon after and I didn’t find it all that interesting anymore. The side characters were sort of “meh”. The end goal was flimsy at best. The antagonists were very weak in terms of their motivations. The protagonist was too busy simping over MML that that was the forefront of her problems. It lost steam even before it reached the middle and I held on even then. But part way through I didn’t want to waste my time anymore.
Likely it will appeal to some but not my cup of tea.
Narrator was great though.
