No matter how messy the murder or how dirty the deed, Mrs. Jeffries's polished detection skills are up to the task...proving that behind every great man there's a woman - and that a crimesolver's work is never done. It took no time at all for the magistrate to rule the death of Harlan Westover a suicide. But not everyone is convinced by the result of what may have been a slip-shod investigation.

Glad it is free
Revisado: 10-09-24
Poor attempts at Victorian London English syntax and vocabulary. Anachronisms and Americanisms ruin characterisation.
Poor research...apparently Galway (Western Ireland) is in some region to the North of London :):)

All the residents of Sheridan Square have a key to the garden - but no-one seemed to know that Mirabelle was planning to arrive. Dialogue, ostensibly Victorian English, full of modern American anachronism
Revisado: 10-07-24
Good idea for a series. Plots and character personae not bad. Narrator does decent job ans has pleasant timbre.
BUT
Sometimes Narrator confuses voice of stuffy English butler and his " hill-billy" American employer.
AND
Writing has anachronisms/disjoint...often to detriment of character portrayals

Historia
Charmain Baker is in over her head. Looking after Great Uncle William's tiny cottage while he's ill should have been easy, but Great Uncle William is better known as the Royal Wizard Norland and his house bends space and time. Its single door leads to any number of places—the bedrooms, the kitchen, the caves under the mountains, the past, to name but a few. By opening that door, Charmain is now also looking after an extremely magical stray dog, a muddled young apprentice wizard and a box of the king's most treasured documents, as well as irritating a clan of small blue creatures.

Narration not as good
Revisado: 02-15-24
There was a lot of stridency in this one. There didn't seem to be any rationale to accents and there was a lot of shrieking and monotonous voice raising. The two main characters got hard to listn to.

Historia
When Maggie McTigg's brother Michael went off to fight in World War II, he left his taxicab company in her hands. As the only member of the family with a lick of business sense, he asked her to keep it running while he was gone. Maggie took it as a sacred trust, her own contribution to the war efforts, and resolved that it would still be operating when the conflict was over and he finally returned home—no matter what it took and what she had to do. Just how far will a woman go to keep her soldier brother's heritage alive for him until a war is over?

Irritating, unbelievable and repetitive
Revisado: 10-12-23
Ridiculous premise based around rescue of silly, wimpy girl tourist. A rehash of several old plots from this series made even more irritating by dialogue in which everybody repeats the end of everybody else's sentences. Narrator (although skilful in some ways) can be heard swallowing etc. due to poor production values. Characterisation of Mrs. Pollifax seems to include the assumption that she has acquired a set of loose false teeth and can no longer pronounce the letter 's' without shlurring. shomewhat shloppily.

Historia
Heroic bookseller Laurent Letellier comes across an abandoned handbag on a Parisian street. There's nothing in the bag to indicate who it belongs to, although there's all sorts of other things in it. Laurent feels a strong impulse to find the owner and tries to puzzle together who she might be from the contents of the bag. Especially a red notebook with her jottings, which really makes him want to meet her. Without even a name to go on, and only a few of her possessions to help him, how is he to find one woman in a city of millions?

Vapid writing with a decent narrator
Revisado: 05-18-23
Can't believe this book took two authors to produce.
Repetitive, brittle, unbelievable story. Ostensibly set in Regency England and attempting the language of Georgette Heyer without success. Tedious "plot" goes round and round.
Modern Americanisms carelessly dropped into so-called historical British context. Basic grammatical errors, misuse of nouns and adjectives and at least one unfinished sentence.
Disrespectful to expect money for overtly shoddy work.
