Historia
"In the middle of the road of my life I awoke in a dark wood, where the true way was wholly lost." When you find yourself suddenly without bearings, as Dante Alighieri voiced so well centuries ago, where will you look for guidance? Throughout the ages, teaches David Whyte, the language of poetry has held a special power to hazard ourselves boldly at the "fierce edges" of our lives. On Midlife and the Great Unknown, you will engage with poetic imagination as it was meant to be experienced.

What You Miss(ed)
Revisado: 03-19-22
“You realize what you learn you have lost in the fact of a person dying is you’ve lost what they loved and everything else is like chaff that is blown away. That the summation of a person’s life is the sum of what they held in their affections.”
This made me think of my priorities and what I hold in my affections. Major wake up call!

Hysterical
Revisado: 03-24-20
I’m not one for writing reviews, but this book deserves a written response. I usually do the bulk of my listening at 5AM for an hour... my wife has had to tell me to quit laughing. The parts of the story where Jung adds his side comments are hilarious.
Besides that, how Jung derives his view of the mind, pre and post life, and his own narrative are equally engaging.
Great job, on both the story and the narration.

In 1957, four years before his death, Carl Gustav Jung, psychiatrist and psychologist, began writing his life story. But what started as an exercise in autobiography soon morphed into an altogether more profound undertaking. The result is an absorbing piece of self-analysis: a frank statement of faith, philosophy, and principles from one of the great explorers of the human mind.

Historia
Two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize David McCullough tells the dramatic story behind the story about the courageous brothers who taught the world how to fly: Wilbur and Orville Wright.
On December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Wilbur and Orville Wright's Wright Flyer became the first powered, heavier-than-air machine to achieve controlled, sustained flight with a pilot aboard. The Age of Flight had begun. How did they do it? And why?

David McCullough At His Best
Revisado: 10-18-16
This is the fourth of David McCullough's books I've listened to. As with the other three, I hated it to end.
His writing and reading work well for me ~ the right amount of detail and the voice of a weathered veteran.

Historia
The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

Greatly Woven Story
Revisado: 02-03-16
What did you love best about Beautiful Ruins?
The story weaves between Italy, Los Angeles and the subjects. I LOVED how Edoardo Ballerini changes dialects throughout the book ~ and his excellent mispronounciations - it's worth it just for that. I'll definitely listen to Edoardo's other readings.
