Historia
Tala had to fight tooth and nail in the Magic Academy to forge a path to power that was her own. She knows it’s her duty to use that power to serve humanity, defending them against the creatures of the untamable wilds. However, she skipped a few steps in her education, like apprenticing to someone who actually knows what they’re doing. Now, Tala has to balance learning as fast as she can with paying off the veritable mountain of debt the Magic Academy dropped on her shoulders for the opportunity; not to mention staying alive.

Pretty much what I said in the title. It is creative, fun and Tess always makes stories more pleasant.

Nice story, decent narration
Revisado: 01-09-24
Nice story that ticked all of the boxes I expected. Male narrator has an editing fail where he repeats a line, but no big deal. Only complaint is the author's obsession with male creatures having big hairy balls.

Great trilogy, performance degrades in third book
Revisado: 11-28-23
This is a great story. The twist really isn't so it gets a little annoying watching the characters not get it for so long, but otherwise enjoyable. Don't know if third book was rushed but the editing is bad. Numerous occasions of small sections being repeated. Performer otherwise great, though she does mispronounce some similar words like pronouncing "buffet" as "buff-ay" when contextually it is clearly the "buff-it" pronunciation that belongs there.

Decent idea, performers carry it.
Revisado: 11-14-23
I will start by saying both performers did a great job and it was a joy to listen to them. Sure, the male performer can't pronounce "hearth" correctly and the female performer hilariously swears and corrects herself in an edit fail, but they do a great job overall and listening to them was pleasant.
Now to the story. The premise was fun. There was plenty to do with the series of competitions in this game style and the author was very creative in doing so. It probably would be rated better without the sex. Now don't get me wrong, I do thoroughly enjoy the sex scenes in this genre when they are done well. They aren't. If the author's goal was to advertise that their experience in sex was more porn than practical experience, and to describe a very well endowed man in a way that screams that the author isn't, then they did a great job. But I don't buy that this was their motivation and frankly multiple sex scenes here were more laughable or eye rolling than believable.

All of the annoying bits, none of the plot
Revisado: 11-07-23
Is there really anybody who has been reading the last 28 books thinking what we needed more of was all of the characters still needing therapy? The drama from Asher and Richard and various other players is something we put up with because sometimes it is necessary. But it has always been a bit overplayed and now it getting an entire book is just ridiculous. There's a murder, and a big scary out there, but lets not actually really address either.
I literally listened to the first pair of whiners and then Asher whining and said "What's next, Laurell? Are you bringing Richard back?"
It was a joke. Nobody wants to spend an entire book with a highlight reel that Anita and everyone around her have issues that have issues. I have loved this series for 28 books and having read this I still love it for 28 books.

If you would have told a young John Stamos flipping burgers at his dad’s fast-food joint that one day he’d be a household name and that, at the height of his success, he’d be living alone, divorced, with no kids, high on a cocktail of forgetting, he might’ve asked, “You want fries with that?”

Wonderful story, narrated beautifully
Revisado: 11-06-23
I honestly probably would never have considered this book if I handed seen John Stamos on Hot Ones and been captivated by his story telling there as a preview for it. This memoir is written wonderfully, and performed wonderfully. I just wish someone had told him that the book would have been wonderful with a few hundred less uses of the title in the text. That and there is one point at the very end where John doesn't consider that this may be listened to with headphones. I will forgive one ear drum rattling yell, though, in an otherwise wonderful book.

The performers make this impossible to listen to
Revisado: 10-30-23
I thought I had experienced the highs and the lows of talent in audio book voice acting but this performance lands so far below the palatability of semi-literate porn stars reading amateur erotica that you can't see one from the other. I literally don't have a clue how good the book is or isn't, because of this performance by people who appear to be trying out the language for the first time. Emphasis, tone, pacing are all off to a level that reinvents uncanny valley.
If this story seems interesting to you, read it on Kindle, because this aural abuse isn't worth the credit. I sincerely suggest the author get someone else to re-record this because even a bad voice actor will be better than whatever this was. If that were to happen I would even give this series another shot.

Decent for the genre
Revisado: 10-04-23
The story was decent and I will continue. The performers are annoying. The number of times they use inflection not contextually appropriate is unprofessional. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the response "What about me?" to "What about my mom" should emphasize the first half of the sentence, as opposed to emphasis on "me." the former reflecting a réitération of the question, the other reflecting someone got left out. Many such examples are just jarring for anyone who has ever had a conversation with even the most uneducated native English speaker.

Historia
Since being thrust back in time, Calon has found himself in a world of danger and delight. People were wary at first, about having a summoner in their midst. And not without good reason. The confrontation with the good sheriff made sure of that. But when the dust cleared, there was still work to do, and only one person who could reasonably do it. But it's not just bandits going bump in the night. The goblins are stirring up trouble, an adventuring team has come to town and a certain Nightmare might just be friendlier than she first let on. Trouble just can't seem to stay away.
