Historia
Since the publication of the first edition of Critical Race Theory in 2001, the United States has lived through two economic downturns, an outbreak of terrorism, and the onset of an epidemic of hate directed against immigrants, especially undocumented Latinos and Middle Eastern people. On a more hopeful note, the country elected and re-elected its first black president and has witnessed the impressive advance of gay rights. Critical Race Theory is essential for understanding developments in this burgeoning field, which has spread to other disciplines and countries.

Decent overview of CRT and good narrator
Revisado: 02-21-21
A good introduction to the ideas of CRT. The book even has a chapter on possible critiques of CRT that help the book “seem” impartial. However, for those who have listened here are some questions to ask yourself.
1. What dangers exist in making your core philosophy a critique of the dominant viewpoint?
2. CRT is critical of capitalism, rationalism, colorblindness and many other things. It is never critical of Marxism or Communism. In fact it mentions an influx of Marxist thinkers in a certain situation as a positive turn of events. Is CRT ever critical of Marxism? If not, why?
3. How viable is CRT outside the United States? What happens if you explain CRT to someone in a less privileged/dominant Country than yours and they disagree with you? Who is right? If you come from a western dominant culture, as does CRT, how does that dynamic effect the conversation?
4. Chapter 1 begins by saying that CRT deals with the situations where race “seems” to play a role in an interaction. Is there anyway to scientifically test this assumption? If not, what dangers exist with creating laws, policies, and culture beliefs that are based on a philosophy which sometimes draws from accurate data or assumptions but sometimes makes inaccurate assumptions?
Chapter 1 begins by suggesting there are instances where race “seems” to play a role in the way a POC is treated and these are

Now, in yet another virtuosic performance, the actor proves that despite being separated by a span of over a century, his connection to the author and his work is undeniable and that theirs is a timeless collaboration that should not be missed.

One of the best audiobooks I’ve heard.

If Nick Offerman could read all of Mark Twain that would be amazing. His voice brings to life the wit of the author. Hard not to smile or laugh throughout. Truly awesome rendition and a great masterpiece of literature.

Historia
Thousands of years ago Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius wrote these meditations as a guide for his own self-improvement, and they're still relevant today. Bedtime stories are narrated by the world’s most celebrated voices and written with no beginning, middle, or end so you don’t stay up to hear what happens next. They're interesting enough to give your mind something to focus on, but delivered in a way that encourages sleep.

Revisado: 08-04-20
Initially I tried listening to this book straight through. I didn’t quite make it all the way. This book isn’t great as a narrative overall. The opening chapter are in narrative format and the most entertaining to listen to for sure. The rest of the book reads like a series of bullet points on specific topics. Each topic is then given its own chapter. It’s a unique way of organizing a book really.
Anyway, I did enjoy listening to much of it but there is only so much you can absorb at one time. I wasn’t quite sure how I felt overall but now I see it as a sort of condensed collection of wisdom that can be returned to for brief periods of time. The stoics were quite refreshing and funny after all.
I quite like the performance. The vocalist reading the text has the right amount of seriousness and dry humor. I often found myself smiling. Also, considering the material reads in part like a textbook and part a zen koan I think he does a great job.

Historia
Fyodor Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment is universally regarded as one of literature's finest achievements, as the great Russian novelist explores the inner workings of a troubled intellectual. Raskolnikov, a nihilistic young man in the midst of a spiritual crisis, makes the fateful decision to murder a cruel pawnbroker, justifying his actions by relying on science and reason, and creating his own morality system. Dehumanized yet sympathetic, exhausted yet hopeful, Raskolnikov represents the best and worst elements of modern intellectualism. The aftermath of his crime and Petrovich's murder investigation result in an utterly compelling, truly unforgettable cat-and-mouse game. This stunning dramatization of Dostoevsky's magnum opus brings the slums of St. Petersburg and the demons of Raskolnikov's tortured mind vividly to life.

Superb Audiobook
Revisado: 05-08-20
Perhaps the best performance of any audiobook I own. This is not an “easy” book to read and George Guidall reads it in such a way that it comes to life vividly in your mind.
A word or warning for people who don’t speak Russian: the Russian names are not always easy to keep track of. I found myself getting confused on who was in a scene and backtracking fairly often as the story evolved and got more elaborate. This is an audiobook that requires a certain level of focus while listening.
Is it worth it? Of course. Dostoevsky’s wit and dark humor show through on every page. I started listening to a different version several months before I found this one and I couldn’t get into the story. The narrator was reading the words but I had to work to piece together their meaning. Here, George Guidall embodies the story so fully that the intentions of the author shine through with clarity.
