Historia
If someone you loved was the victim of a violent crime, how far would you go to find justice? Jack Devlin didn't know the answer, until his brother was left comatose after a brutal assault. To the police, it was just another New York mugging. But to Jack Devlin, it was an abomination that must be avenged - outside the law.

I read this book for the first time in 1993. Then the two follow up Devlin adventures, as they were released. Packs as much a punch as I remember, and the narrator did an excellent job. I couldnt help but smile when we are introduced to Sam Zitter and James Pony; it was like seeing old friends. Devlin is a great protagonist. I had a blast listening. Highly recommended.

Historia
Since 1945, the US has justified numerous wars, interventions, and military build-ups based on the pretext of the Russian Red Menace, even after the Soviet Union collapsed at the end of 1991 and Russia stopped being Red. In fact, the two biggest post-war American conflicts, the Korean and Vietnam wars, were not, as has been frequently claimed, about stopping Soviet aggression or even influence. And now the specter of a Russian Menace has been raised again in the wake of Donald Trump's victory.

Intelligent work, clearly shining a light on our own foreign policy misadventures and comparing them to Russia's modest foray into international affairs, which almost invariably have Russia's territorial integrity at the root of said foray. Ours, by comparison is nearly always motivated by financial gain, no matter the impact on the recipient of our 'beneficence', whether that beneficence take the form of political meddling or bombs. Both parties are held culpable and to account, and both attempt to blame Russia for their individual failings, and to bolster military spending. None of this failed to leave me incensed. Worth the time and money.

Historia
Although frequently vilified, Iran is a nation of great intellectual variety and depth, and one of the oldest continuing civilizations in the world. Its political impact has been tremendous, not only on its neighbors in the Middle East but also throughout the world. From the time of the prophet Zoroaster, to the powerful ancient Persian Empires, to the revolution of 1979, the hostage crisis, and the current standoff over Iran’s nuclear ambitions, Michael Axworthy vividly depicts the nation’s rich history.

Historia
From the internationally bestselling author of No god but God comes a fascinating, provocative, and meticulously researched biography that challenges long-held assumptions about the man we know as Jesus of Nazareth. Sifting through centuries of mythmaking, Reza Aslan sheds new light on one of history's most influential and enigmatic characters by examining Jesus through the lens of the tumultuous era in which he lived: first-century Palestine, an age awash in apocalyptic fervor.

I took a month off from work and productivity when I got out of the Navy in 1994. A friend gave me a stack of Koontz books to keep me occupied and I blew through about five, establishing him as my favorite author of the macabre. His recent books are well written but his best work was in the 80s in my opinion. After many many moons of sleeping on this book while it loomed in plain sight, I cannot recommend it enough. This is the old Koontz, a story of great characters, epic story and a whirlwind of an emotional roller coaster. The story starts slow but once rolling you are taken for an awesome ride. Stick with it, and enjoy. Highly recommended.
