Mediocre at best
Revisado: 03-25-25
I wouldn't call this a page turner. It's especially hard to enjoy coming off of a weeks long jaunt with Dungeon Crawler Carl. The story was unique, but lacked excitement. The novel concludes to no fanfare. It's just another story, but not interesting enough, in my opinion, to continue on to book 2.

Another Hit
Revisado: 08-18-22
This was another great novel by Dennis E. Taylor made even better by Ray Porter's narration.
Don't listen to the negative reviews. People that imagine their current political views being infringed upon in works of FICTION are the kinds of people that simply enjoy complaining.
The story is fun, if pethaps a bit rushed. I would have enjoyed more story, but sometimes the shortest rollercoasters are the funnest to ride.

Great story
Revisado: 03-01-22
I really enjoyed this novel, and an audio book can't go wrong with Ray Porter narrating.
My only complaint, and it was more like an small annoyance, is that the narration kept interfering with my Amazon Echo Auto.
One of the characters in the book is named Alexia, and everytime her name was said (and it was said a lot) the Alexa in my car would stop the audio novel for a few seconds and wait for a command.

Historia
James Crowley met his mortal end in a hail of gunfire. Now, he finds himself in purgatory, serving the White Throne to avoid falling to hell. Not quite undead, though not alive either, the best he can hope for is to work off his servitude and fade away. His not-so-sacred duty as a Hand of God? Use his new abilities to hunt down demonic beings that have infiltrated the mortal realm. This time, the White Throne has sent him to the middle of nowhere: a Western town called Dead Acre with a saloon, a moldy church, and little else worth talking about. There isn’t even a sheriff.

Fun, albeit short, read
Revisado: 03-14-21
I'll admit that I only downloaded this book for two reason. #1 it was free, and #2 it was read by the voice of one of my all time favorite video game characters, Arthur Morgan, from Red Dead Redemption 2.
With that said, I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised. The story was intriguing enough to hold my attention, and it was very wall written. Roger Clark's performance as a grizzled old cowboy working to hopefully win his own redemption was spot on. I was left wanting more, but not due to an incomplete story. I would like to follow the protagonist on some of his previous errands, or maybe on the next to come.

Historia
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

Stephen King at his best
Revisado: 09-03-18
This was another fine story by Stephen King. An intriguing story that kept me listening right up to the very end.
The readers performance was excellent and didn't use too many goofy voices to ruin any characters.

Another Great Story From Scott Meyer
Revisado: 07-26-18
This novel is the follow up story to Meyer's first novel, "Off to be The Wizard".
This story is well written and well performed. Being the second novel in this series I would recommend reading/listening to the first novel before starting this novel. It's not absolutely necessary, but this novel has a lot of references to the first book which could make the story a bit confusing.

great Story
Revisado: 07-05-18
I read several reviews about this book before I made the purchase, and I have to admit that a few of the bad reviews almost made me skip this novel. I'm glad I didn't.
This story doesn't follow your typical format, but that fact, by no means, makes the story any less enjoyable. Who says that writers absolutely have to follow the exact same narrative format as the writers that have come before them? The traditional narrative format work, but that doesn't mean it's the ONLY format that works.
Off To Be The Wizard is an engaging fantasy story with an entertaining plot. The main characters are well developed, and believable. The work may be a little obvious that it is the authors first novel, but I think it is a fine start to a promising career.
I have already started listening to the second book in the series.
