Viruses today

Any additional comments?
What do you do when the world falls apart? Maybe getting drunk is not such a bad idea, at least for the first night. This time from a virus, the story is told from different points of view, and is full of tricks to remember if you find yourself in a SHTF situation.
I like survival novels, especially post-apocalyptic ideas. The authors tend to show the best and worst, as well as the gray areas, of people and it seems much more true as a result.
Kevin Pierce has a great voice and delivers the story in a very matter-of-fact manner, much like one would do when in that type of situation. He doesn't have a large range of voices but it doesn't detract from the stories for me, it just seems more like a campfire story years after the (enter disaster here) occurred.

Historia
You'd think that life would be easy-breezy for a handsome, demonic badass like me, but you'd be wrong. The demon doesn't help me with rent, doesn't help me pick up chicks or anything fun like that. Instead, he's all about violence. So, when this super-powered necromancer shows up in town and starts emptying the city's graveyards, my buddy Gadreel thinks it's go time. Before the Veiled Order knows it, a war is about to break out between the living and the dead.

Demons are always fun
Revisado: 02-23-18
Any additional comments?
Roaring Blood is about a fella trying to fight fire with fire, sort of, to do good in the world. It ain't always pretty, but he gets the job done.
Ambrose Ibsen brings another thriller to the world with some interesting takes on old ideas. He is very entertaining to read.
James Foster is an amazing narrator. He has a powerful voice but can make it do whatever the story calls for. I have listened to several books simply because he was the narrator.

Paranormal tales

Any additional comments?
This book contains paranormal stories that are apparently true. I guess truth is stranger than fiction. The stories are short and the narrator is OK.

Good story but difficult to listen to
Revisado: 02-23-18
Any additional comments?
This is a short book with zombies. That pretty much saves it. The idea is good, however, saying "he said" regularly is OK. The author chose to use a thesaurus and find every possible thing other than "he said" such as "he interjected", "he called out", etc. The narrator furthers this irritating part by waiting a beat before saying that part. It makes it somewhat disconnected. Maybe I'm just too much of a stickler, but it was more difficult to listen to. The narrator's voice is fine and the story is good, just be aware you might cringe at that issue which is all through the book.

Fun horror

The Con Season is about a washed-up actress that needs the money and takes a job performing at a convention... in the woods at a camp. I think we all know where this is going. A fun ride though.
Joe Hempel, the narrator, has a subdued voice, but does good voices and keeps the pace moving well. I have listened to many books and several authors simply based on his being the narrator.

Historia
Chase Baker is a true Renaissance Man. He's also a man who knows how to find trouble. A part-time resident of Florence, Italy, his resume reads like a modern day Da Vinci or Casanova. Writer, private investigator, tour guide, historian, treasure hunter, adventurer, and even archaeological sandhog, Chase is also a prolific lover. Unfortunately for him, his dangerous liaisons all too often make him the target of a jealous husband.

Chase Baker begins
Revisado: 02-23-18
Any additional comments?
The Shroud Key is the first Chase Baker book. Not too many people get to see the Shroud of Turin up close. Living a life as an explorer, sandhog, treasure hunter, writer, and of course, lover, he bounces around getting into scrapes and beds. In the vein of Indiana Jones, you feel for his smart-alec character and wait impatiently to find out how he will get out of his current pickle. Andrew B. Wehrlen is the narrator and does a wonderful job. His voice lends itself to the smart-alec Chase and he breezes through the many accents needed for a globe hopping story. I have listened to many books just because he was the narrator.

The stories were originally featured not in a book at all, but were written as installments in a London magazine called The Strand.

Sherlock Holmes has always been on my radar, but I never read any of the actual books, only excerpts or shows. This is much more and worth the listen. Doyle created a great character and you almost feel like you should have known some of those clues. The narrator was amazing.

Historia
It's easy to imagine Harold Shipman doting on his little grandkids, reading them stories from his lap and letting them play with his big, bushy beard. If you were told he was a doctor, I bet you'd imagine he was a good, kind and gentle one, with an easy, affable manner and deep care for his patients. Harold Frederick Shipman certainly projected all those qualities, but only so that he could hide the evil that lurked deep inside. Shipman abused his trust and used his position to kill.

Disturbing
Revisado: 02-23-18
Any additional comments?
Harold Shipman did some vile things. It is not always easy to listen to but it is relatively short so at least the tension settles after a short time. Few things are more disturbing than the true stories. The narration is in more of a news story style, so hard to put a grade on it, but it is good.
