Historia
The real stories behind the scenery of America’s national parks. For 12 years, Andrea Lankford lived in the biggest, most impressive national parks in the world, working a job she loved. She chaperoned baby sea turtles on their journey to sea. She pursued bad guys on her galloping patrol horse. She jumped into rescue helicopters bound for the heart of the Grand Canyon. She won arguments with bears. She slept with a few too many rattlesnakes. Hell yeah, it was the best job in the world! Fortunately, Andrea survived it.

Nice Hiking read
Revisado: 02-26-23
Great to get some information about hiking around Mt. Hood. On my bucket list. Sometimes gets a little too detailed and you want it to just move on, but overall very enjoyable account of one man’s journey.

Fantastic Listen
Revisado: 01-29-23
I listen to many audio books. Some put me to sleep, some fill an empty void, and some get me so immersed that I find myself looking for places I can listen without interruptions. This is the later. Take a trip to Alaska and loose yourself in the moment and you follow the life of Jimmy Huntington. I have few books I listen to twice. This will be one.

Could wilderness be our only hope? As our culture removes itself from the natural world, something very essential has been lost. But there is still one place we can go to get it back. Come along on a spiritual journey, away from a chaotic world of details, obligations, smartphones, and noisy machines to a place that is unspoiled, untamed, and free. Backpacking mostly solo, Stillman leads us to the heart of the American wilderness, where nature works her magic to heal and transform your life.

2,000 Miles Together is the story of the largest family ever to complete a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, defying skeptics and finding friends in the unlikeliest of places. On the trail, Ben Crawford battled not only the many dangers and obstacles presented by the wilderness - snowstorms, record-breaking heat, Lyme disease, overflowing rivers, toothaches, rattlesnakes, forest fires, and spending the night with a cult - but also his own self-doubt.

Not just another hiking book
Revisado: 12-31-21
So unique and refreshing. I loved how the kids took ownership of he hike and lessons learned along the trail. It’s true, Rainier may not remember much of the trail, but he will probably be the one most influenced, because his personality was not yet developed when they started heir journey.
This wasn’t a story to get everyone hiking with their family as much as it was to show how families develop over time and how kids are capable of much more than we give them credit for. Quite the inspiration.
These kids will probably not become world class hikers, but they will be successful in all they do because they truly know how much effort it takes to accomplish goals worth living!

Historia
Just before her 40th birthday, Gail Francis quit her perfectly good job and set out to hike one of the great trails of the world. Carrying everything she needed on her back, Francis spent five months walking from Mexico to Canada along the Pacific Crest Trail. Along the way, she lost her pack scrambling over scree in the desert, struggled to navigate high mountain passes, and wore the soles off her boots trekking across lava fields - all within some of the most pristine wilderness in the nation. Though she set out alone, her story includes an eclectic cast of characters.

I enjoyed the trip
Revisado: 08-10-21
I always enjoy hearing about the journeys of a persons through hike. I almost turned away because of people reviews of her political views, but it is such a small part of the book, I can’t believe they mentioned it at all. Hike your own hike and let others have their own opinions and beliefs.

Have you ever wanted to visit Machu Picchu, or witness the Northern Lights? To explore remote landscapes where no boot has tread, no shutter ever snapped? You can.... Before he became Green Giant on the Appalachian Trail, Gary Sizer was a Marine, a computer nerd, and a guy with a problem. No matter how much time he spends outside, it's never enough. Whether being thrashed by drill instructors at Parris Island or drenched by a squall in a high tundra, the same calming thought always prevailed: It's good to be outside.

Historia
At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.
