Historia
Maine, 1789: When the Kennebec River freezes, entombing a man in the ice, Martha Ballard is summoned to examine the body and determine cause of death. As a midwife and healer, she is privy to much of what goes on behind closed doors in Hallowell. Her diary is a record of every birth and death, crime and debacle that unfolds in the close-knit community. Months earlier, Martha documented the details of an alleged rape committed by two of the town’s most respected gentlemen—one of whom has now been found dead in the ice.

Intriguing mystery by promising new author
Revisado: 11-10-20
Well-written and effectively narrated tale of a murder in small town Iowa that was not what it seemed. A young reporter becomes part of the story as he follows his instinct & clues. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the audiobook as I had already read a hard copy. Excited that this is first in a series and impatiently waiting for future books. Highly recommended by this former small town Iowa girl

Historia
Once described by The Washington Post as "the most interesting mayor you've never heard of", Pete Buttigieg, the 36-year-old Democratic mayor of South Bend, Indiana, has improbably emerged as one of the nation's most visionary politicians. First elected in 2011, Buttigieg left a successful business career to move back to his hometown, previously tagged by Newsweek as a "dying city", and transformed it into a shining model of urban reinvention.

Historia
In this powerful reflection, President Jimmy Carter contemplates how faith has sustained him in happiness and disappointment. He considers how we may find it in our own lives. As President Carter examines faith's many meanings, he describes how to accept it, live it, how to doubt and find faith again. A serious and moving reflection from one of America's most admired and respected citizens.

Extremely well done by admirable author
Revisado: 01-20-19
A well-written book I expect to revisit. Discussed types of faith, development of faith & implemention of faith. Most impressed at the way he has so well integrated concepts from a variety of theologians & other thinkers, his own life experience, a lifetime of Bible study into a faith he Iives out effectively. Both interesting & inspiring

Tumba, Sweden. A triple homicide—all the victims from the same family—captivates Detective Inspector Joona Linna. The killer is at large, and it appears that the elder sister of the family escaped the carnage; it seems only a matter of time until she, too, is murdered. But where can Linna begin? He’s in no condition to be questioned....

Historia
Meet Harold Fry, recently retired. He lives in a small English village with his wife, Maureen, who seems irritated by almost everything he does, even down to how he butters his toast. Little differentiates one day from the next. Then one morning the mail arrives, and within the stack of quotidian minutiae is a letter addressed to Harold in a shaky scrawl from a woman he hasn’t seen or heard from in twenty years. Queenie Hennessy is in hospice and is writing to say goodbye.

StreetCreds is a look inside the world of street gangs and the cops that work them.
I worked the street for many years before I entered the Gang Task Force, joining it with the idea that I could rise to the level of violence of any banger I encountered - a really stupid idea. I wanted to "earn back" the respect of the citizens for the police; I grew up in this city, and I worked its streets the best way I knew how, feeling that I had a firsthand understanding of what the citizens were experiencing.

Historia
Manhattan apparel designer Roxy Rae Vaughn, who's also a still-in-the-closet, country line dancing queen, wants to be a fashion success story. Tired of being nothing more than a Fifth Avenue up-and-comer, thanks to her elitist parents, Roxy moves to Nashville, Tennessee and opens a boutique in a local tractor supply store, the only retail space she can afford. Short on cash and way, way down on luck, she rear-ends a pick-up truck belonging to a tomato-growin', bootscootin' cowboy.

Ok but not much depth
Revisado: 02-09-14
Would you try another book from D. D. Scott and/or Christine Padovan?
Maybe but there are much better options
Would you recommend Bootscootin' Blahniks to your friends? Why or why not?
Probably not; predictable storyline; issues with mother resolved much too easily
How could the performance have been better?
Pronunciation; revelance for relevance; myaystro for maestro; sequence for sequins
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
If the music and dancing were good, maybe
