Once upon a time this was good advice but the book is seriously dated. It talks about land lines, and how users should get Chromebooks and install chrome for privacy. Also, most of the examples given are of shady people and criminals getting caught. It does not make a strong case for why everyday people should care about privacy. Instead it should provide more examples of normal people wrongfully accused or people gettingbstalked or scammed by leaked data. There are a couple examples of those but not enough.

This book has a lot of great info for the average person that has not yet figured out how to manage their finances. It is probably one of the best books for young people that are still in school or just entering the workforce. It is full of good advice that will definitely get someone on the right path so that they can begin accumulating money. The advice is solid enough to help almost anyone retire comfortably. Those under 30 could retire rich and/or early, those under 40 could retire comfortably, and those under 50 could retire adequately by following the advice in this book. Many parts are repetitive, but that usually reinforces important points that are probably worth repeating.

I marked the book down for a few reasons though. First, while the author has some good advice about not sacrificing the things you enjoy to save, he offers little to no advice on how to decide what to keep and what to cut. The problem is, if your budget does not allow for such indulgences, you may still need to cut them. Second, all the info is relatively basic for for someone that already has things under control and is on the path towards financial independence. There is not much here that such people could use to tweak their lifestyles/plans to find more fulfillment or ratchet up savings.

The faith perspective was good but the author focuses too much on sports. Also, does not address societal disadvantages boys face and how to overcome them. Overall book was okay and worth the read but if you are only going to read one or two, there are better options.

As a parent of a young teen and a scout leader, I was encouraged to read "Raising a Modern Day Knight" by another leader. That book was very useful, but it also left me wanting something more. I then read other books about raising adolescent boys and the unique challenges they face today. These included "Of Boys And Men", "He's Not Lazy, Empowering Your Son to Believe in Himself", "Boys Adrift", and "The Boy Crysis". I could not get enough of the topic. All the information from these other books has been neatly paired down by this book and presented in an easy to digest format, complete with actionable tasks at the conclusion of each chapter. The author references these other books, and it is clear that they helped develop his vision of fatherhood and I believe "Raising a Modern Day Knight" was likely one of the strongest influences. Both books stress the importance of giving boys meaningful ceremonies to acknowledge their transition to manhood. These are sorely lacking in modern society as are parents who take the time to help their sons find purpose in their lives. Without these things, boys become lost, lack confidence, and begin to check out.

I read this book when my son was 14, an age where I can still make an impact, but old enough where some opportunities have already passed. But looking back I this book has made me incredibly grateful that my son has been involve in scouts, because that program has provided him a lot of the experiences and ceremonies that this book encourages, and the book allowed me to reflect and truly recognize how impactful some of these experiences have been. My son has also been involved in team sports, individual sports, music/band, and other youth programs like 4H. These programs have all helped his development, but none have had the breadth or depth of impact that scouts provided.

I listened to the audiobook first and enjoyed it so much that I promptly purchased the hardcover so I could take notes and write my assignment responses directly in the book. Both versions of the book are inexpensive, and I highly encourage others to do the same. I am also contemplating purchasing copies to hand out to new dads or to parents of scouts that join our troop. I am sure the later will be preaching to the choir, but it may inspire them to take similar action with others in their lives.

In short, get this book, it has a lot to offer. If after reading it, you disagree, then you are either a far better parent than most of us, or you still do not realize how important you are to your son and are not as present as you should be. I suspect most people fall in the latter group. If that is the case, read some of the other books I mentioned above. Perhaps one of the other authors will present the material in a way that connects better with you. But the underlying message in all of these books is the same, I personally feel this author did the best job.

This book offers a lot of great insight and practical strategies to help parents raise teenage boys. We have not experienced too much conflict yet but the book has helped me recognize some areas for improvement. I also recognize some of the personality traits outlined in the book in my own son. I am happy to have found this book before we have encountered any major problems. The content offered in the book will help us better guide our son and hopefully avoid many of the issues described in the book. My only complaint is the performance. The person simply read the content. There was little inflection, no pauses to let important points sink in, and overall pacing was off. it felt rushed. I think slowing down the playback would have helped.

I enjoyed the book but very little of the book contributed to the overall story. The entire middle section of the book could have been chopped out as it adds next to nothing to the story. the ending also felt rushed. I also kept waiting for some major twist or reframing of an earlier event but that never came.

Previous reviews mentioned this book was slow but that is an understatement. I stuck it out for about 12 hours and very little has happened. Every other chapter simply introduces more characters and none of them seem especially interesting. I have no idea who half the people are or why I should care about them. They all blur together and since nothing really happens, I found myself zoning out and that just compounds the problem. I hear the ending is great but no ending is with such boredom. A really good dessert does not justify a terrible meal, nor does a good ending justify a terrible book. Normally I would save judgement until the end, but this book is 4x longer than most books so making it 25% of the way seems appropriate. An author should be able to establish an interesting story within that time, if not more editing is required.

overall, I think this book is great. It really does highlight how simple investing can be. it just mark it down. it offers a lot of good advice. anyone who follows it will build wealth. I just dinged it a little bit because he glosses over some things and advises against some proven strategies. that may have been intentional to keep things simple. Id rather everything be presented with the pros and cons and let the reader decide if something is with the effort. we will all make some mistakes along the way and a few less impactful choices may at least offset some poor choices we made.

Not as good as the original but definitely worth listening to. It revisits some things and also covers some new areas as well. It feels more relevant with the newer data but does not feel as insightful.

The characters and world are interesting and kept me listening to see what would happen next. The story itself feels jumbled. the first two books feel more like a large collection of short stories. As soon as a new plot manifests, it is quickly resolved. Consequently the pacing is off. It is also very linear with no interweaving story arcs. The third book is a little better. overall, there were a lot of events and characters introduced that had zero relevance to the overall story and leaving unanswered questions. The ending was built up for much of the third book but just fizzled out. I think this is would have made a great coming of age book for pre teens or teens, however parts of it have unnecessary swearing.
