Two lawyers fall in love...

This was my favorite book of the trilogy. Our couple's relationship was based on mutual respect, lust then love. He respected her mind and her body. She wanted to experience lust that turned into love. All the plot turns worked, this was an interesting romance. I listen to the other two through my romance package but I bought this one I'm glad I did.

she was the only woman that could handle him...

She was too tool for his revenge. But he fell under her spell.

These two characters were well suited for each other. No other person would be better suited. She was smart, fearless, and willing to play a game to win the man she loved. He imagined himself evil, despicable, and he was, but he really couldn't be around her. Their banter was good, storyline never got boring, a good all-around fun read.

The second side romance of her friend was enjoyable though I could have gone with a bit more emphasis on that.

steam engine more prominent than romance

Protecting a steam engine from sabotage was the majority of the story. The romance was the minor component. A couple of kisses was all it took to solidify this couple.

Promising premise turns into standard fare...

I loved the premise of the book. Hard working teacher picked to marry a duke's son because she was blood related to the duke and his son wasn't. I'd never come across this scenario.

I loved that duke's marriage was ice cold until she entered their family allowing the older couple to find each other again.

I loved that she was smart, articulate, and well educated. He was too.

I enjoyed the opening sections of this book UNTIL out of fear she impulsively lied to him causing mistrust and anger. It took a long time for them to make it to altar. It took a longer time for them to overcome her lie. When he hit her, that crossed a line for me. She recovered. I didn't.

Unique plot points...

This story had certain plot points that were unusual. The love story was intellectually interesting but didn't grab me emotionally. This wasn't a boring book.

I've enjoyed the Louisa character throughout this series of books. Her choice to care for and support others while putting her own needs second resonates. What this book explored included finding out who she was beyond the role of caregiver. That was satisfying. Narration was superb. The cast of characters that I've loved over the other books were all here with some great new additions.

Charming...

Misunderstanding is the key to this story but not in a bad way. She thinks ill of him based on bad first impression. He finds her willingness to insert herself into others problems tiresome. And yet, they find each other in each other's company again and again. You can guess what happens next. This is an old school romance, cerebral not physical.

Forced into a new life but it was too easy...

The premise of the book was good. She finds out her marriage is a sham. She begins a new life. She gets an inheritance. Her next door neighbor is an old childhood friend. They become best friends but hesitate to take it to the next level. This was a pleasant read. But it was all too easy. Her inheritance meant she never had to worry about money. Her neighbor had loved her since childhood. They became instant best friends and did everything together. There was no conflict. Her journey to finding herself was the best part.

They didn't like each other...

He was a higher social rank than she. She didn't like him. He didn't like her. Then he liked her but she still didn't like him. He was too shielded and unemotional. She was free spirited but wasn't always appealing either. That was the majority of the book. When they came together it was good but it was too late to make this more than a decent read.

A much better read by this same author is "The Proposal" which has similar elements - one is of higher social rank than the other, one was guarded, and they don't like either other initially. But that all changes and their delightful courtship was the majority of the book.

A little too perfect...

This couple had it easy with few obstacles. I liked them. He was stunning. They had fabulous sex. They enjoyed each other intelectually. They had great friends. You get the idea. It was a straightforward story with little mystery about how it would end. This was a one and done listen.
