Historia
In the summer of 2022, Lee Berger lost 50 pounds in order to wriggle though impossibly small openings in the Rising Star cave complex in South Africa—spaces where his team has been unearthing the remains of Homo naledi, a proto-human likely to have coexisted with Homo sapiens some 250,000 years ago. Lead researcher Berger had never made his way into the dark, cramped, dangerous underground spaces where many of the naledi fossils had been found. Now he was ready to do so. Once inside the cave, Berger made shocking new discoveries that expand our understanding of this early hominid.

Fascinating

I couldn’t put this down. It was told as an unfolding mystery. I am now going to watch the documentary of the same name to see the visuals

Historia
In 1916, Sven Ormson leaves a restless life in Stockholm to seek adventure in Svalbard, an Arctic archipelago where darkness reigns four months of the year and he might witness the splendor of the Northern Lights one night and be attacked by a polar bear the next. But his time as a miner ends when an avalanche nearly kills him, leaving him disfigured, and Sven flees even further, to an uninhabited fjord. There, with the company of a loyal dog, he builds a hut and lives alone, testing himself against the elements.

Beautifully written
Revisado: 05-17-23
I thought about this book a lot for days after I finished it. It has a quiet beauty and I was sad when it was over. It is a story of isolation, endurance, loneliness and hardships that are sustained by deep friendships and, touchingly, a dog.

Historia
A fascinating insight into notable speeches that were never delivered, showing what could have been if history had gone down a different path. For almost every delivered speech, there exists an undelivered opposite. These "second speeches" provide alternative histories of what could have been if not for schedule changes, changes of heart, or momentous turns of events.

Great History Lesson
Revisado: 01-20-23
This book sounded pretty interesting when I heard the author interviewed, but it was even better than I had anticipated…a rare treat. A healthy dose of fascinating history surrounding the speeches and told in an interesting and captivating way. Great narration.

Reads like a YA novel
Revisado: 07-05-18
I have read several of Ms. Hannah's novels, and enjoy them. This one did not quite reach the same level for me and I found myself ready for the book to end about halfway through. I did like the characters, which kept me reading past the point of boredom. When I was done with the book I went back to see if it was a novel directed for the young adult. It isn't listed that way, but that is how it read to me. I did love the beautiful descriptions of Alaska and the hardships of living there. This was the high point for me.
