Historia
In his 26 years in the field, Richard Taylor has worked on well over a hundred murder cases, with victims and perpetrators from all walks of life. In this fascinating memoir, Taylor draws on some of the most tragic, horrific and illuminating of these cases - as well as dark secrets from his own family's past - to explore some of the questions he grapples with every day: why do people kill? Does committing a monstrous act make someone a monster? Could any of us, in the wrong circumstances, become a killer?

Informative
Revisado: 04-03-24
This book included very informative descriptions of why deviant behavior occurs, and the psychological / psychiatric tests used to support and diagnose findings. The author also reminds us that no matter how heinous the crime, the perpetrator is still a human being. I think we tend to overlook the humanity of the criminal all too often.
I've read other reviews which commented on the narrator's voice, but I quite enjoyed hearing the book as read by the author. There were only a handful of times which I found the narration difficult to understand, but understanding the culture of the author and context of the story made it a little easier (I'm an American, so some of the British terms were a bit unfamiliar). The author's dry wit was also appreciated!
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone with a curiosity of the human mind, deviant or otherwise (the mind, not the audience).

Historia
Psychologist Margot Scott has a picture-perfect life: a nice house in the suburbs, a husband, two children and a successful career. On a warm spring morning Margot approaches one of her clients on a busy train platform. He is looking down at his phone, with his duffel bag in hand as the train approaches. That’s when she slams into his back and he falls in front of the train. Margot’s clients all lie to her, but one lie cost her family and freedom.

I really appreciate how this story was told using different effects for the telephone calls, the news media announcements, and the like. The narrator did an amazing job!!
The story was well written and gripping. The exposition and character development was very well done.
This author consistently receives great reviews and now I understand why. Highly recommend!
