Historia
Isabel Allende reconstructs the painful reality of her own life in the wake of the tragic death of her daughter, Paula. Narrated with warmth, humor, exceptional candor, and wisdom, this remarkable memoir is as exuberant and as full of life as its creator. Allende bares her soul while sharing her thoughts on love, marriage, motherhood, spirituality and religion, infidelity, addiction, and memory - and recounts stories of the wildly eccentric, strong-minded, and eclectic tribe she gathers around her and lovingly embraces as a new kind of family.

Not for Me
Revisado: 11-02-23
I have enjoyed each of Isabel's books until this one. My book club and I have rated 5 stars to her novels. So disappointed in this one. To me much more Isabel sharing her political views more than the relationship with her daughter, Don't care to know what her liberal views are. Perhaps Isabel forgot that she writes for a all types of readers even the conservative one.

Historia
In the late 1980s on the Jersey shore, Jane Wong watches her mother shake ants from an MSG bin behind the family’s Chinese restaurant. Don’t Waste Your Time
Revisado: 10-02-23
Or money on this one. Author has a huge chip on her shoulder. Too many references to horrible white men. Hard to believe she never came in contact with a good white man. Some good poetry but that is it. Wanted to rate lower but the system wouldn’t allow that…odd

Historia
Like most gentiles in Nazi-occupied Paris, architect Lucien Bernard has little empathy for the Jews. So when a wealthy industrialist offers him a large sum of money to devise secret hiding places for Jews, Lucien struggles with the choice of risking his life for a cause he doesn't really believe in. Ultimately he can't resist the challenge and begins designing expertly concealed hiding spaces - behind a painting, within a column, or inside a drainpipe - detecting possibilities invisible to the average eye. But when one of his clever hiding spaces fails and the immense suffering of Jews becomes incredibly personal, he can no longer deny reality.

Blythe Connor is determined that she will be the warm, comforting mother to her new baby Violet that she herself never had. But in the thick of motherhood's exhausting early days, Blythe becomes convinced that something is wrong with her daughter - she doesn't behave like most children do. Or is it all in Blythe's head? Her husband, Fox, says she's imagining things.
