We could use both more books as well written as this one and more outstanding women like Hedy Lamar!!! The narration is fantastic and the story line being broken down into her German and Hollywood life was easy to follow.
WOW! She was brave, smart, daring and just didn't give up. This is a must read book for any one who plays an instrument, enjoys the movies, or appreciates their cell phone :-) Thank you Hedy.

War, Love, Drama and all in Italy! What more do you need? This is the historical account of the life of one man in Italy during the end of WWII. It was fascinating, detailed and exciting. I was laughing and crying and cheering Pino on! I learned so much about the Italian side of WWII. I frequently read accounts of what went on in Germany, France and England. This was a fresh take on the subject. Beautifully written and wonderfully read. This is a long book but I couldn't wait to listen every day on my commute.

The narration for this book is excellent with the British accent and the ease in which she is able to portray all of the different characters. It is very easy to follow and know which character is speaking. However, the story line is very predictable, and the main characters are wholly unlikeable. I finished the book waiting for the big plot twist or "AHA" moment but even that became predictably ridiculous too. The book passed the time on the commute to work and the narration was very pleasant listening to the British accent. But Eleanor Oliphant is Fine is a much better choice for a listen if looking for a book with a woman with quirky social behaviors and a better story line.

The book has a great point to make and a lot of fantastic lines. It just takes a while to get there.
There are a lot of female characters that are developed in the first several chapters and it takes a while (and maybe a few repeats) to get them straight. But I think the book weaves together a lot of issues - feelings about motherhood, workplace attitudes, whether women should support each other as colleagues about an issue just because they are women. And then there is a nice mystery thrown in.

Quick lessons in Italian that are practical to use. These are words that you will use in greeting people, in restaurant, asking directions, etc. I used this driving in my car. It was fun to do (and no -one else could hear me practicing :-)). The down side is there is no book so you cannot "read" along with the speaker, and it is hard to skip those chapters since it is not organized by chapters.

This was a fantastic listen! I couldn't wait to get back in my car to hear more. I listen while commuting and didn't even mind the traffic. I absolutely fell in Love with Eleanor. I was rooting for her in all of her quirkinness along her journey. The book makes a lot of great observations about people in general - about what it takes to be popular, to be a friend, what small pleasures we take for granted, and how one should never judge what anyone else could be struggling with. There is some humor to Eleanor's social awkwardness but also a dark side to the story. I laughed, I cried- I felt I was very involved in the story.
The narration was also perfect. English and Scottish accents mixed with great prose - what more could you want?

The narration is excellent. There are lots of different characters who are given their voice here - the pregnant Yankee, the Scotsman, and the bitter English drunk. All the accents are marvelous. This impressive trio tells the story between 2 wars and intertwines the network of spies, deception and friendship through multiple countries. There are parts that sound a bit like a romance novel but I always wanted to know what happened next. The characters are well developed and very memorable.

The narrator does an outstanding job become a 15 year old autistic boy. It is a great story seen through the eyes of someone with autism. What a great way to hear the about the "Incident"

This is not a feel good book. But I couldn't stop listening!
A teenage girl is dead on the first page. It's not a murder mystery to solve either. It's a character study into her family and a look back into the days/ months/ years leading up to her death. It naturally looks at the secrets that happen in a family and in this mixed Chinese- American family in particular. It forces the listener to think about the pressures in society that occur because of race, gender and of course the pressures that occur to try and please your parents.

Some of the stories are hard to believe! They are gut wrenching and make you want to cry or shake the parents into understanding that their job is to take care of their children. It's amazing the authorities didn't step in to help these kids. But it is an amazing story where the beauty of love and simple pleasures are really appreciated.
