Historia
The Jesus Nut tells the parallel stories of three unlikely pilgrims - a reviled professor, a delusional homeless veteran, and a priest who loves strip clubs - searching for the greatest religious relic of the 21st century. Thrown together after a raucous showdown with evangelists, they decide to ignore their differences and work as a team in pursuit of their holy purpose. Their journey to New York City leads to a fateful encounter with a former advertising executive, whose mad ramblings suggest he might be the very oracle to help them fulfill their destiny.

We all have our flaws & we don’t always know our purpose. This book has great characters that aren’t perfect but they are figuring it out. Funny, easy read I would recommend to anyone.

Very King Very Good
Revisado: 03-06-21
I see why this gets so many comparisons to The Stand. Similar in story, and scope. Not quite as sprawling, and not quite as many lovable characters. Is it a cliché to say that the rockstar was my favorite? Well he was, and Shaina was my least favorite. I think the Shaina character keeps this book from being an out right masterpiece.

Historia
Tender Branson, the last surviving member of the so-called Creedish Death Cult, is dictating his life story into the flight recorder of Flight 2039, cruising on autopilot at 39,000 feet somewhere over the Pacific Ocean. He is all alone in the airplane, which will crash shortly into the vast Australian outback. But before it does, he will unfold the tale of his journey from an obedient Creedish child and humble domestic servant to an ultra-buffed, steroid-and-collagen-packed media messiah.

Like a boring Jack Reacher
Revisado: 06-12-16
I saw all the reviews & the celeb endorsements & thought this sounded like a good Jack Reacher / Joe Ledger equivalent. Plus Ray Porter was the narrator.
I'll say this : I would have quit if it wasn't Ray.
The story was flat and boring and made no sense. The boss wants him to be an invisible hit man moving in the shadows. Yet he hooks him up with super rare muscle cars & has him traveling around the poorest parts of Chicago. Huge eye roll. On top of that the cop is onto him in about seven seconds.
If this wasn't an established author, this would never have been published. Lazy and boring.

Someone should do a study & see how much of "On Writing" is word for word transcribed in this book under the guise of reference. It's a hack job rehash of On Writing. Clinical. Boring. Unnecessary.

Twisted twisted twisted
Revisado: 03-17-16
I had never heard of this book before I saw it pop up on the audible front page under recommended.
I clicked the sample & read the synopsis. I liked the narrator, so I downloaded.
And whoa, mamma! This book was amazing. It was out of nowhere & I loved it. I listened to it primarily on a business trip & had to stifle my chuckles on planes, trains & shuttles. Joe is my new favorite physco.
I finished the book today & I'm going to listen right away again because I want to catch all of Joe's throw away one liners & observations. I loved this book.

Historia
A masterful, intensely suspenseful novel about a reader whose obsession with a reclusive writer goes far too far - a book about the power of storytelling, starring the same trio of unlikely and winning heroes King introduced in Mr. Mercedes. "Wake up, genius." So begins King's instantly riveting story about a vengeful reader. The genius is John Rothstein, an iconic author who created a famous character, Jimmy Gold, but who hasn't published a book for decades.

Utterly forgettable.
Revisado: 09-24-15
I read King no matter what he writes about. He has written a dozen absolute masterpieces. This is not one of those. A very forgettable, long boring story. Holly & Jerome were the only bright points. Hopefully those two investigate the death of Hodges (and this storyline) in the inevitable third book.

So heavy. Winslow's masterpiece. Ray Porter shines
Revisado: 09-09-15
This is a book that I loved, but may never read again. It was heavy stuff. Winslow writes a lot about the Mexico / SoCal drug wars, and I wasn't sure I wanted to go back to that territory after "Power Of The Dog," and "Savages," but Winslow killed it with this one. No pun intended.
The story, and writing were great, but I have to hand it to Ray Porter. He made every character come alive. His narration is the best in the business. I love him reading Jonathan Maberry's Joe Ledger series, and I love his reading on Winslow's "The Dawn Patrol," but this may be his best performance to date.

Historia
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

THIS WILL HAVE SPOLIERS.
Revisado: 07-03-15
I SAID THERE WILL BE SPOILERS, SO DON'T READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN"T READ IT YET.
I liked the book, but had 2 issues, both kind of major.
1) As someone who read "14" the green roaches gave away the ending in the 2nd or 3rd chapter.
2) Once the "secret" was revealed it sputtered into a predictable, safe ending.
Overall I liked it, and LOVE Ray Porter, but the two issues mentioned above keep me from loving the book.
