Historia
Filled with sharply drawn, emotionally powerful senses, Walk Through Fire traces the hardships Sheila faced in her marriage and her professional life. Despite her skills as a violinist and music teacher, as well as her obvious entrepreneurial talent, she had to fight to overcome self-doubt and fears of failure. Sheila vividly details her struggles, including battling institutional racism, losing a child, suffering emotional abuse in her thirty-three-year marriage, and plunging into a deep depression with her divorce. And yet, out of that pain came renewed purpose and meaning.

From The Fire To Great Fortune
Revisado: 02-16-25
Sheila Johnson's memoir will grab you by the neck and hold you captive until you have listened to every single page.
She narrates it herself and held nithung back in this transparent, truly shocking, and vulnerable story of her life.
Money can be used as a weapon or for good deeds and she explores with in her book. The relationship with her ex- husband, Bob, almost had me on the floor and ... I wasn't laughing.
There are so many wonderful and insightful nuggets in this book that I would hate to offer any spoilers.
Shiela's road to becoming a billionaire many times over is a fascinating journey of a smart woman with a brilliant business mind.
I met Sheila many years ago, and she was warm, thoughtful, and treated everyone with respect. Some super wealthy people are snobbish and full of themselves. She wasn't.
Enjoy the listen. Highly Recommended!

The Memo Is Long...
Revisado: 02-16-25
I came to this purchase with high hopes of insightful and engaging material. It didn't quite deliver on the original premise or promises.
I loved the concept and was rooting for this book from the jump. It soon turned into a preachy, repetitive, whine about endless office politics and how she did/didn't handle the abuse.
I've worked in corporate America and her horror stories are real. I just needed her to cut the repetitive excess and focus on delivery of said solutions and tips.
The reading was not great and I had to adjust the tempo on the app to get it moving.
I purchased another book by Mindy when I bought this one, and I hope that one will be a better listen.
That said, go ahead and listen to this. The memories are, for so many of us, still lurking in the background... sadly!

Every one of these cases requires you to use your detective skills to identify and diagnose the mystery patient just like the doctors that attended them. In the process, you’ll learn fascinating insights into medicine: both the medicine that was practiced thousands of years ago and the medicine doctors practice today.

Brilliant Part 2 of Medical Mysteries & Investigative Work
Revisado: 02-16-25
Dr. Roy Benarouch presents 10 more cases of famous historical people who died from a wide range of ailments.
Again, he walks us through their medical history, the speculations, the false diagnosis and, finally, the correct cause of death.
As I mentioned in my Part 1 review, it was a lot of fun guessing who each person was and finding out if we had the right answer at the end. There are many world famous people in the books and makes the listen even more fascinating.
The medical investigations were thorough and insightful and gave me a better picture of how doctors determine what ails a patient. It is not as simple as we ever imagined.
A fantastic listening experience... and there is a Part 1. Make sure to listen to both. Highly entertaining and recommended

Seldom does a book have the impact of Michelle Alexander’s The New Jim Crow. Since it was first published in 2010, it has been cited in judicial decisions and has been adopted in campus-wide and community-wide reads; it helped inspire the creation of the Marshall Project and the new $100 million Art for Justice Fund; it has been the winner of numerous prizes, including the prestigious NAACP Image Award; and it has spent nearly 250 weeks on the New York Times best seller list.

Powerful. Historic. A Must Listen.
Revisado: 02-16-25
Michelle Alexander's book on the dangers of mass incarceration in the era of "colorblindness" is a powerful warning to us all.
It led to the creation of the Marshall Plan, $100 million grant to investigate her allegations, won numerous prestigious awards, and still remains relevant over a decade since it was published.
If you believe in fair justice for all, listen to this book and get educated about the massive challenges that surround the industrial prison complex.
A powerful and timely message worth listening to. Highly Recommended.

Thoroughly Enjoyed Eve's Memoir
Revisado: 02-16-25
The supremely talented rapper turned media mogul, Eve, delivered the goods in this honest, close to the heart memoir about her life.
The stories and her journey were sincere, shocking and even vulnerable.
I remember when Eve broke out into the rap headlights and had us all mesmerized by her talent and beauty.
She has stayed beautiful, smart and diverse, directing her career down new and exciting roads.
I would recommend this memoir because it shows many sides to this beautiful rap queen. More power to you, Eve!

As the only African-American soloist dancing with the prestigious American Ballet Theatre, Misty Copeland has made history. But when she first placed her hands on the barre at an after-school community center, no one expected the undersized, anxious 13-year-old to become a groundbreaking ballerina. Life in Motion is a story of passion and grace for anyone who has dared to dream of a different life.

Awesome Memoir Marred By Awful Narration!
Revisado: 02-16-25
I was excited to buy and listen to this memoir because I have followed Misty's career and wanted to learn more.
There is plenty to learn about this beautiful, talented, and determined dancer and the many twists and turns her life takes on the road to mega success.
Listening to this book made me marvel at the trajectory of Misty's dancing successes because of all the obstacles that could have derailed her dreams.
Her family, dance schools, teachers and even other dancers, interfere or support her or both. It is a miracle she even made it to the top as a prima ballerina.
Misty's success is earned through hard work, commitment and unflinching focus. It is well deserved.
The only blemish is what other listeners have shared... the narration is atrocious! Be forewarned! A hard NO to the narration. Maybe Misty will re-record it in her own voice in the future.
Otherwise, a great book to buy a copy and read.

Surprisingly Gripping Story With Twists and Turns
Revisado: 02-16-25
I don't remember how this book got on my listening list but I don't regret it.
Decades after Lauren's mom was murdered and was filed away as a "death from natural causes," Lauren picks up the investigation again.
Lauren is determined to find out what really happened to her mother. Her excellent sleuthing skills and drive to find out who killed her mother sends her down many paths and a few rabbit holes.
No spoilers here. Take a listen, you might enjoy it like I did.

Talent Is Half The Battle
Revisado: 02-16-25
Maxwell makes it clear that our choices determine our destiny.
The graveyards are teeming with supremely talented folk who drugged, drank, and wasted their lives away by making poor choices.
We get it and the book delves into the traps and tragedies that can spiral the talented into the abyss.
It is a worthy listen with warnings and wisdom words to help us navigate this minefield called life. Enjoy it.

Humorous & Informative
Revisado: 02-16-25
This is a helpful, even humorous, book on marathon running and the mindset a lot of runners have that help them finish what could be a grueling race.
The author is an accidental marathon runner and he makes the best of it. As a runner, I enjoyed listening to it and while it didn't dive deep into the mechanics or science of it, his anecdotal stories will suffice.
