Some of the history was interesting, but mostly the story just didn’t grab me. I took a chance and lost. Stephenson’s wide wild prose is just too much in this book. I could not care for any of the characters

I hate it when stories just start with a lump of exposition, of one person, just droning on and on. If this were a real person, I would feel sorry for her, very much. But I found it hard to feel any sympathy because of the length of time spent on background. This to me is the sign of a not very good writer.

I bought the Kindle book, and loved the dialogs. But the audio takes it to another level. So well-done, and acted. André Klein has made an almost subliminal way to learn. (I also enjoyed hearing my first name repeatedly in dialog # 2.) Maybe I’ll be able to speak with my German relatives much more easily and with less arm-waving and pantomime.
