Couldn’t finish it
Revisado: 02-01-25
It’s not often I have to stop listening to a book, but this is just terrible. Cool idea poorly executed. You can’t relate to any of the characters. Seems like the book was written by a child.

Historia
Colonel Joe Bishop made a promise and he's going to keep it; taking the captured alien starship Flying Dutchman back out. He doesn't agree when the UN decides to send almost 70 elite Special Operations troops, hotshot pilots, and scientists with him; the mission is a fool's errand he doesn't expect to ever return from. At least, this time, the Earth is safe, right? Not so much.

Repetitive
Revisado: 12-29-24
Wow! How can an author continue to write the EXACT same thing over and over and have the nerve to call it a book? I wonder if Skippy is gonna be sarcastic, and call everyone dumb every time he talks. Joe is like a goddamn savant, and just magically figures everything out exactly when he needs to. I truly hope there is an actual plot here beyond generic sarcastic responses and simple problems that ALWAYS have a solution. This could be a pretty great series so far it’s pretty terrible.

Historia
It's been three years since Aren seized the Ember Blade. Three years since they struck the spark they hoped would ignite the revolution. But the flame has failed to catch. The Krodans have crushed Ossia in an iron grip of terror. The revolution seems further away than ever. Far in the north, the Dawnwardens seek to unite the fractious clans of the Fell Folk and create a stronghold from which to retake their land. But even if they can overcome the danger of treachery from within, they still have to contend with the dreadknights.

Wow, it’s so bad
Revisado: 09-22-23
I really enjoyed the first book and was excited when this was released, but it couldn’t have been more disappointing. First, there was no actual plot. The entire book was essentially one person turning on one another until the very end, that’s just lazy writing.
Second, what happened to the characters? Aren was interesting in the first book, made me want to know what happened to him next. In this book Aren is an empty shell it’s more about Fen and Vika. Which is silly considering how Vika’s arc goes. Fen’s character
Was slightly interesting in the first book and then Wooding makes her a main character, why? SHE IS BORING! It’s like all these conflicts that happen between the Dawn Wardens and the rest of the resistance are just a silly lack of communication, which can be somewhat realistic, but again is just lazy writing. I feel like the author just didn’t know how to continue the story so he just released this pile of trash. I’m not getting the third book.

The story itself isn’t too bad, it wasn’t great, but I will probably finish the series. It was the narrator that was just awful. Maybe the story would’ve been better if someone else read it.

Revisado: 12-16-22
Like the title says it is by far the worst book I have ever had the misfortune of reading. Should have stopped after the first couple chapters. Not to mention, the narrator was just awful. Nothing good about this trash fire, just don’t.

It’s just so bad
Revisado: 10-24-22
There will be spoilers………Don’t do it. I saw that it had pretty high reviews and the first book was pretty good, but it all goes downhill from there. By the final book I just want it to be over so bad. I can’t stop a story once I start it, unfortunately. It’s so predictable it’s not even fun. Gwynne makes no effort to disguise his plot what so ever. In the final book he just introduces me and on events from nowhere, like all of a sudden there is magical healing, even though characters survive mortal wounds throughout the whole book. He did no research into the shield wall. As effective as it was in real history it was still subject to being overrun. Numbers count for much in a melee battle. So you’re telling me 800 men in a shield wall, in the open, can take out 1000s of men no problem and with like 10 losses. I realize that this a work of fiction, but come on. The characters are just so bad it hurts my heart. Lykos is the worst, “I wanna drink fight and rape and not necessarily in that order.” That’s literally all he does throughout the entire series. Such a horrible character. This entire series should get negative stars.
