Historia
Martin Heidegger, considered by some to be the greatest charlatan ever to claim the title of "philosopher", by some as an apologist for Nazism, and by others as an acknowledged leader in continental philosophy, is probably the most divisive thinker of the 20th century. In the second edition of this Very Short Introduction audiobook, Michael Inwood focuses on Heidegger's most important work, Being and Time, to explore its major themes of existence in the world, inauthenticity, guilt, destiny, truth, and the nature of time.

Historia
As lead singer and songwriter for the Velvet Underground and a renowned solo artist, Lou Reed invented alternative rock. His music, at once a source of transcendent beauty and coruscating noise, violated all definitions of genre while speaking to millions of fans and inspiring generations of musicians. But while his iconic status may be fixed, the man himself was anything but. Lou Reed's life was a transformer's odyssey. Eternally restless and endlessly hungry for new experiences, Reed reinvented his persona, his sound, even his sexuality, time and again.

Structured in three parts, each recounting a new expedition, there are some long-awaited answers here, to be sure, but also more questions, and profound new surprises. Absolution is a brilliant, beautiful, and ever-terrifying plunge into unique and fertile literary territory. It is the final word on one of the most provocative and popular speculative fiction series of our time.

Thomas Piketty’s best-selling Capital in the Twenty-First Century galvanized global debate about inequality. In this audacious follow-up, Piketty challenges us to revolutionize how we think about politics, ideology, and history. He exposes the ideas that have sustained inequality for the past millennium, reveals why the shallow politics of right and left are failing us today, and outlines the structure of a fairer economic system.

Great, despite the inadequate structure
Revisado: 09-11-24
The book is almost all a collection of interviews about the Velvet Underground (the majority about Lou). The book didn't do great in weaving those interviews together but this is still a great collection of the oral history surrounding the VU.

What are the grand dynamics that drive the accumulation and distribution of capital? Questions about the long-term evolution of inequality, the concentration of wealth, and the prospects for economic growth lie at the heart of political economy. But satisfactory answers have been hard to find for lack of adequate data and clear guiding theories.

One of the most important economic books
Revisado: 09-02-24
Although it can get a bit tiring with the many statistics Thomas presents, they all do a good job of honing in on the point of how income inequality can be viewed from many different angles. To understand and criticize modern-day capitalism, this is a must-read.

Jonathan Lambshead stands to inherit his deceased grandfather’s overstuffed mansion - a veritable cabinet of curiosities - once he and two schoolmates catalog its contents. But the three soon discover that the house is filled with far more than just oddities: It holds clues linking to an alt-Earth called Aurora, where the notorious English occultist Aleister Crowley has stormed back to life on a magic-fueled rampage across a surreal, through-the-looking-glass version of Europe replete with talking animals (and vegetables).

Maybe it is because I am used to Jeff's previous books and their somewhat related style but this one missed the mark in being engaging because of how it presented all the characters and settings in a boring and jumbled manner.

It is so hard to understand, but that makes sense!
Revisado: 08-16-24
If you get frustrated trying to follow what is happening in the book, then you are reading it correctly. You have to decide on whether you want to experience Dead Astronauts as exploring disjointed dreams with an evasive thread through them or read/hear it multiple times and note your interpretations of the plots and storylines. It is tough, which is why I gave it four stars but for an experimental work, I think even Jeff would consider that as perfect.
