I really got to know Mark Twain

What an interesting, intelligent, amusing human being he was. He has been everywhere and done everything, and his list of friends reads like a Who's Who of the 19th century. The touching accounts of his family surprised me and his humorous anecdotes didn't disappoint. Buy the book, too, if you want to read all the reference material

We are at first introduced to Phileas Fogg, who lives in London and has just fired his valet for silly reasons. Fogg then hires Jean Passepartout who, at the time of hire, has no idea of the adventure that his new boss will take him on. Fogg learns that it is now possible to travel around the world - starting and ending up in London - in only 80 days.

Better Late Than Never

I never got around to reading this book as a child, or to my children, or even my grandchildren. Thanks to Audible, I can enjoy it now as I walk, sew, or garden. What fun to read about an adventure written over 150 years ago before cell phones, smart TVs or the Internet. There are plenty of nail-biting moments as Phileas Fogg races against the clock while circumnavigating the globe. If you like intrigue, outlandish characters, and romance, you'll love this classic.

After receiving harsh criticism from my memoir writing group, I reached out for help.
Mary Karr's advice launched me on a corrected path. I especially appreciate the section on voice and how to wrangle with this elusive element. Mary's voice vacillates from enlightened college professor to foul-mouthed Texas brat, and I loved every minute of it. She showed me where I'm going wrong and how to fix it. I devoured her book during a day of gardening. Now, I'm her newest avid fan.

I love this class

At first, it was frustrating not having something to read at the beginning of each lesson, but now I understand why the class is structured that way. They want me to get used to listening to the sounds first before they show me the words and I apply my English sounds to them. This also helps me become a better listener. I'm surprised at how close my pronunciations are when I'm given the chance to try them out at the end of the reading lessons. Give it a try. I think you'll like it.
