Fun story, great ideas, interesting world
Revisado: 05-05-25
The story is fun, as usual with Glynn Stewart - lots of action, interesting characters, neither the goodies nor the baddies are all good or all bad. The narration in general was good, but there were places where it became overly dramatic. It was only for a few sentences at a time but I found them almost embarrassing. I will listen to the rest of the stories - it was not enough to put me off.

One dimensional and soppy
Revisado: 04-24-25
I expected better of Ms Lackey, but stereotypical characters, a wish to demonstrate her research into Edwardian London and a clear clone of Lord Peter Wimsey were unfortunate. The narrator did well in varying voices but she over-did the evil baddie, morphing B movie baddie speech into ridiculous histrionics.

A tricky death, shamans and sorcerers, and the joy of Penric’s view of the world. As entertaining and at times wise as the other Penric books. And I love the fox.

Repetitious
Revisado: 10-16-24
I’d forgotten how often information is repeated, again and again and again. As if we might have forgotten an important clue or event in just the previous chapter. And the full explanation will be given again later in that chapter and the next. A great deal of editing would render a good story. The narrator does an admirable job with what she is given.

Not terrible
Revisado: 09-16-24
The main character is frustratingly slow to understand situations, which detracted from a reasonable plot. The writing is accessible but not eloquent. If you are after a light, slightly silly story this will suit you.

Another rollicking short story from the Chronicles of St Mary’s author Jodi Taylor. Question: What sort of idiot installs his mistress in his wife’s house? Especially when that mistress is Cleopatra VII Thea Philopator, queen of Egypt and the most notorious woman of her time? Answer: Julius Caesar - poised to become king of Rome. Or as good as.
