Historia
I have always known my position in life will be based not only on who I mate with but on my ability to give them an heir. I am a lucky one, though. My father has allowed me to decline my suitors, and as a prince, there is always a suitor, one sure I can give them what they want: wealth and power. Thanks, but no thanks. I want someone who loves me for me. Or, at least, someone who won't make me feel sick to my stomach just by being in the same room as them.

quite good!
Revisado: 04-04-25
based on the title, I was expecting a quite dark romance. while there are darker elements in the book (light and dark fae races with different goddesses, an arranged marriage of a demeaned and neglected prince), it is surprisingly a lovely read. the main couple complement one another well and the neglected prince receives the attention and regard he deserves. definitely recommend

Historia
Moving to the sleepy town of Havens Hallow, Massachusetts, during my senior year hadn't been part of my future plans. Not to mention the ancient house my father bought sits next to the creepiest place imaginable—a graveyard full of battered stone statues. It's a far cry from the upper-middle class neighborhood we left behind. That wasn't the only thing I had to walk away from. My position as the star quarterback of my old team has now been replaced with a not-so-cozy spot on the sideline. With a football scholarship on the line, I can't afford to be benched. I need help, and fast.

such a cute story!
Revisado: 03-13-25
I wouldn’t call this “short” exactly, but since I usually listen to stuff that’s 10+ hours, I’d deem it short and sweet.
I like that the story is the relationship with the plot included as a way of moving time forward. Sometimes that type of book can feel a bit too drawn out, but this was the perfect amount.
The writing and dialogue sounded fluid and natural, and the characters were very relatable.
Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a cute, fun paranormal romance with a surprising amount of depth for its length.

Two years ago, the Rabid Hyenas MC ripped Zane apart like a pack of starving wolves. But he’s not only a survivor, he took revenge that same night. Turns out, one of the bikers is still alive, and as long as that’s the case, Zane will not know peace. Especially since Roach is the dirtbag who caused all the mayhem in the first place.

wasn’t sure what to expect with this book, but I trust the authors and gave it a try. it was a lot to go through emotionally, but the story narrative and the main characters’ journeys made it worth the while. high heat in terms of sex scenes if that matters to you

I hated the Terran military. I didn’t volunteer, either. Like so many others, I was drafted as cannon fodder in the senseless Terran war against the Algonquans. Now, my entire ship’s been captured. If what we’ve been told about the alien race is true, I’ll never be seen again. I hope they don’t eat me. Turns out the truth is far different than we were led to believe. The Algonquans aren’t vicious, insectoid monsters, either. We’re now their pampered pets…and they’re using us to help replenish their population to win the war.

ok I didn’t expect an ugly cry at the end
Revisado: 01-31-25
I legit haven’t cried because of a book in a looong time. But here we are. I’m writing this about 15 mins from the end because I’m already getting feels and know I’m about to be a wreck. thanks for that (sarcasm)
I was expecting this book to be a dark romance, at least going by the description. It ended up being a warm/fuzzy romance, though there were very real trials/tribulations that came up along the way. While there is an overarching plot focusing on the war, the war itself is actually more of a pacing tool to show passage of time and to contextualize some of what the characters are seeing and experiencing
I wouldn’t have guessed, but the actual depth and deeper meaning in the story came from the profoundly rich connections between the main characters, as people and also as lovers and life partners.
The actual flow of the story is the deepening and evolution of these connections over time. So while the war is a plot device to move time along, it’s only background to the real story captured in the characters’ very real love for each other.
Shoutouts:
-positive/nuanced portrayal of a life-long multi-sided poly relationship, with other peripheral poly relationships in other families
-accurate and moving portrayals of grief and trauma
-numerous spicy scenes, but done in a way that doesn’t overwhelm the story
Highly recommend

Historia
Fate took almost everything from me, but at least I still had my brother, and Saint, my best friend and hopeless crush. When I found Saint with my brother, the one man who was off-limits, I lost both of them, too. But fate wasn't finished with me. I had to go through literally losing my brother. Then, I gained a spine, scars, and 50 pounds of muscle. The fragile, pathetic kid I used to be is dead and gone. I love the way Saint's jaw drops when he sees me, like I'm a ghost from his past. A ghost who's going to make him pay for all his sins.

is it bad I kinda hated the mc?
Revisado: 12-20-24
So honestly I’m not a big fan of post-trauma danny. He had to process a lot and of course living through what he survived is something no one should have to endure, but the rage at saint that year and a half later just seemed really quite disproportionate.
I mean (some mild spoilers fyi) him joining the competition’s band and trying to rub that in saint’s face - that I can totally get. But the persistent torturing, emotional or otherwise, unceasingly with no semblance of guilt or wondering if he was doing the right thing, I just couldn’t quite get it. And realistically, given how much effort it would have taken Danny to maintain that level of façade, I was surprised there was no internal self doubt or second guessing his actions. I mean even the literal two or three times he seemed a bit reticent, he immediately brushed it off with some random rationalization.
I don’t think Danny had any real gauge on how much damage he was causing. Saint seemed like he was on the cusp of offing himself, I was honestly worried it would get to a SA from Saint’s part for maybe Danny to wake up. Thank glob it didn’t get that far, but seriously.
(spoilers galore from here on) Also it ended with an “if we had had literally one conversation 18 months ago, none of this would have happened” type of trope. It works sometimes, especially when at least one of the characters has some seriously repressed feelings, but saint went from thinking he was about to lose danny forever and wonder ‘what’s the point’ to them basically becoming BFs in like maybe 5 mins.
Don’t get me wrong - happy ending was due for them both in spades and in triplicate. just the overreaction and compulsory abuse coming from danny seemed like a lot of overreach. I don’t know. But it’s dark romance, so I know the point isn’t to perfectly like the MCs. But anyways
Decent read in all - still recommend despite couple gripes

overall pretty good
Revisado: 11-05-24
Stories aren’t pulitzer material, but the writing is consistent and the plot is interesting enough. world building is par for the course for shifter omegaverse: shifters are known to humans, they’re looked down on, and there’s fated mates where the couple knows immediately via scent and they go into heat/rut very soon after mating. pregnancies are three months
the character voices on the whole are good. I only really have a criticism for Noah’s voice in book two. He comes across as being on the spectrum in book 1 (lack of understanding of social cues, assuming shared understanding of social context, etc), but his voice changed in book two and was made to sound more robotic and less human, which just came across as odd.
otherwise like the overarching plot and these books are on the whole much lower angst than you would imagine with omega trafficking being a central plot element

I’ve spent my life preparing to be alpha and uphold our pack’s traditions. Now, I’m not sure how many of those traditions I believe in. Every day, I protect the illusion my father’s not sick and dying. Then there’s the omega pits. I never thought twice about the gladiator matches between packs’ weakest runts. Omegas who can’t survive the fights aren’t fit to bear our children. So why do I step in to save Logan, a stranger whose own pack doesn’t even want him, when he can’t last two minutes in the pits on his own?

decent book. author in general. (yes I know it’s not one person - is a group of ghost writers that no longer publish). narrator does a good job
slight spoiler but not about plot - so for half the book, the omega is pregnant with twins, but at a certain point, it’s just one baby.
not really the biggest issue but a larger oversight than usual from this author persona

Rhys enjoys the company of Silas Quint, but for the eerie way no one pays attention to them even while they kiss in a crowded bar.

Really enjoyed this. I’m not familiar with the author but stumbled across this book and gave it a try. It was great! I was pleasantly surprised and can definitely recommend if you like mm fantasy (slow burn) with kissing but otherwise fade-to-black on the other stuff
