Sadly, the performance.
Revisado: 10-23-24
The reader does a great job, except for the South African accent. It's maddening! They don't roll their R's. Not even a little bit. My brother-in-law is SA. I let him listen. He laughed, very hard.

Seems remarkably similar to a survivor series written by Dirk Patton, years earlier. Just making an observation

Such a great story! But performance is lacking..
Revisado: 03-07-24
This is the 10th book in the series. I think the gentleman reading this book has done the last two as well as this one. He would be great if he just read. He TRIES to do the accents, and he's horrible. The worst is Australia, sound more Scottish. Next is Mexican. Not even close. Then poor Titus. Don't know what accent he's trying but it's different every time. Then Russian. That's the best, but still tragically horrible. I usually review the book. But this performance is so bad it overshadowed the storyline.

She is absolutely bat-shit crazy! Her and her husband are leading ppl down a bad path. Read Rebecca Brown-Yoder's book. It makes me understand why her medical license was revoked! She is delusional about her walk with Christ. Stay away from this insane woman and her husband. Not only a complete hypocrite, a liar as well!

Fantastic story, but……
Revisado: 08-30-22
The gentleman reading the book had a great voice. And he actually did Russian voices very well. But when he portrayed Americans I felt like I was in the middle of a 1930s gangster movie. I don’t know if he’s ever spoken to anybody in the US Navy but they all don’t sound like Bugsy Malone. Kind of made the book a bit of a pain in the ass to listen to. And the fact That he couldn’t pronounce the word Vladivostok or Yokosuka properly. Ugh

Historia
What defended the US after the attack on Pearl Harbor, defeated the Soviet Union in the Cold War, and is an essential tool in the fight against terror? Aircraft carriers. For 70 years, these ships remained a little-understood cornerstone of American power. In his latest book, On Wave and Wing, Barrett Tillman sheds light on the history of these floating leviathans and offers a nuanced analysis of the largest man-made vessel in the history of the world.

How come readers of the story cannot pronounce words?!
Revisado: 08-10-22
The fact that this guy can’t say Grumman and Oriskany are just two of many words that he cannot pronounce yet he’s reading a story about Naval aviation. Obviously he has no interest in naval aviation or history because he is mispronouncing words that people who study and are into Naval aviation history know. He can’t pronounce Tarawa, he can’t pronounce Tinian and several other words. And while it’s a great story and he does have a great voice his lack of knowledge and lack of pronunciation makes it very offputting

Historia
For 17 years, the Soviets knew every military move we made! That is how damaging the Walker family spy ring was to our national security. For the better part of two decades, John Walker, his son Michael, brother Arthur, and friend Jerry Whitworth comprised the KGB's greatest asset. Meticulously detailing the FBI investigation which finally broke the case, John Barron reveals how close the United States came to disaster - and how the repercussions may linger for decades.

Fantastic insight! Incredibly bold people to try and get away with it.
J. Charles read another book I listened to, sounds like a horrible cartoon character. If he would just read the story in his “normal” voice it would have been 1000 X better!

Historia
The Vietnam War is at its height, and the US has acquired a Soviet-built MiG-17. Marine aviator Brad Austin has been recruited to test-pilot it. The MiG is an aerial hotrod, crude yet lethally effective. But it's not what Austin is flying, it's where - behind enemy lines, disguised as a Russian pilot. If he succeeds in penetrating the enemy air space, he will find easy prey. But if he fails, he will be disavowed.

Performance was off putting
Revisado: 05-11-22
I spent 10 yrs in Marine Corps aviation and I have never heard anyone talk like these characters. If he would’ve just read the story and his regular voice it would’ve been 1000 times better.
First of all, he made it sound like all these fighter pilots are old men. Naval aviators an NFO’s are usually in their mid-to late 20s to early 30s in their prime. And then it was comical because at one point I thought I was listening to Dirty Harry, then Mr. Magoo. And then it sounded like Krusty the clown and the rest of the cast of The Simpsons mixed in with a little bit of The Jetsons and Bewitched.
And then his mispronunciation of a few very important words like Cubi Point and the USS Oriskany, not to mention Point Magu in California.
Absolutely horrible performance. The story isn’t half bad but I almost quit listening to it due to the performance.
The only problem I had with the book is, like I mentioned, I spent 10 years in Marine Corps aviation and Brad Austin was a pretty big whiner. You would never see that in today’s naval aviator.

Fantastic book!
Revisado: 04-05-22
There’s really nothing wrong with the story or the performance. The only reason the performance didn’t get five stars is he would say USAF as if it’s a word. People in the military don’t say that they just say Air Force. I was in Marine Corps aviation for eight years and my father-in-law was in the Air Force for 33 and we never heard USAF said as a word. Lol
