Historia
After defeating the terrifying Necromuse and his mysterious orchestra, all Amelia Jones hopes for is a return to normal. But to her surprise, her class is sent to Europe for a month of study abroad. This seems like the perfect escape from all her problems, but not long after they land in Salzburg, Austria, danger haunts their steps. A street musician claims there is something wrong with Amelia’s magic, odd visions of the past appear around the city, and Amelia finds a strange message preserved in a museum—a message she fears was left by the Necromuse.

England, 1840. For the two decades following the death of her beloved sister, Jane, Cassandra Austen has lived alone and unwed, spending her days visiting friends and relations and quietly, purposefully working to preserve her sister’s reputation. Now in her 60s and increasingly frail, Cassandra goes to stay with the Fowles of Kintbury, family of her long-dead fiancé, in search of a trove of Jane’s letters. Dodging her hostess and a meddlesome housemaid, Cassandra eventually hunts down the letters and confronts the secrets they hold.

Heartfelt, Touching Book!
Revisado: 11-05-22
I love this book so much!! I love how the author told the story of Jane and Cassandra from Cass' perspective in her later years! I love her description of Cassandra's old bones,, and being spoken to like an ancient imbecile. She portrays Jane beautifully at several stages of her life. The narration is wonderful! Juliette Steventon is truly amazing! she portrays each character perfectly! I love how she captures Janes vivacity and wit as well as her profound melancholy. I can't say enough how deeply moving this book is. I loved it so much I ordered the hard cover.

Very Pleasantly Surprised!
Revisado: 11-05-22
I listed to this as an audiobook on Audible. As a massive Jane Austen fan, I thought I would probably enjoy this book. I figured it would be interesting to hear about my favorite author from a male perspective. Wow, was I pleasantly surprised! I loved this book! I really enjoyed his honest description of how Austen’s novels impacted his life. The author was able to put into words things I have felt about Austen’s work, but I couldn’t quite articulate. I love that the author says Austen’s novels help us to grow up. Yes!!! They help us see the realities and complexities in our relationships. They help us to have compassion for and see the good in people we may find irritating (i.e., Miss Bates, Mr. Woodhouse). They help us to see life and ourselves for what we are. As for me, I have PTSD and in addition to traditional forms of therapy, I find that turning to Austen’s books and the films, helps me to stop spiraling and believe the world is a happy, meaningful place again. What a delight to read the story of someone who reluctantly read Austen and like me, continues to find great personal benefits to our lives!
The narrator was excellent!
I don’t want to give anything else away, but I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to listen to it again!
