One of my go tos, especially at night when trying to drift to sleep. I enjoy finding the affirmations that I don’t resonate with to try and learn from them. Louise Hay has a wonderful cadence and gift for this work.

A great start into CPTSD, even for a man
Revisado: 12-06-24
I found Laura on YouTube and started digging into her content. I think she has a really great balance of knowledge, personal experience and talent as a writer.
This is written by a woman, mostly for women, but I was able to get a lot out of this. I’ve recommended it to other male friends as well.
This qualifies as one I may need to own a hard copy for just to bookmark pages better.
Thanks Laura for putting this into the world. Narration was great as well.

Romance can be a little complicated when you get sucked into a wormhole. Just ask high school English teacher June Flint. One little solar flare happens and suddenly you find yourself 85 years in the future. Eighty-five years from your dream job. Your ailing mother whose only companion in this world is you. Your favorite stuffed-crust pizza from DeLucia’s on Sunday nights. But when June’s cell phone inexplicably picks up a signal, she’s able to call back to the present—more specifically, four weeks before she accidentally time traveled.

Fun and well performed/produced
Revisado: 10-15-24
I’m a big fan of acted audio performances. These actors do a great job of bringing it to life.
This isn’t a perfect story but it’s very good and I’m glad to have stumbled into it. I’m planning on relistening to it with my wife.
It leans heavier into the love story over the science and that’s for the best.

No PDF
Revisado: 10-07-24
As others have mentioned, this book lacks a key PDF that is supposed to be attached with key links. I am going to attempt to reach the author. If I’m able to remedy, I’ll adjust my rating.
Synopsis: quick book on why, if you’re looking to homeschool your child, you need to start with yourself. You need to understand your own learning profile by taking different aptitude tests. No test holds all the answers but if you expose yourself to various types, you’ll get a better picture of yourself which can then be done for your child.

Unique and beautiful story
Revisado: 01-02-24
A beautiful story about one man’s journey to enlightenment. I always enjoy fables like this and The Alchemist, even if it’s already had its day. I’m curious to see the movie next.
I have 3 stars to performance for two reasons: first, while I do think it’s cool that the author narrated it, his strengths lie more in writing. Second, the actual chapters of the book don’t align with the Audible chapters. I’m guessing that this is more an issue with Audible but it makes using the Timer feature more difficult.

Different enough from the original
Revisado: 05-01-23
When you take the same characters, in the same virtual world, and put them in another trivia-based quest, there is sufficient room to question if it’s worth the ride for part 2. As my stars indicates, I think it is but I understand why some may not be happy.
I’m going to try to keep spoilers limited and I mark the only time I mention one:
Overall, I think Cline dipped back in the same well as before. The results aren’t as strong but it’s still solid. In the first book, they gave a nice variety of trivia… something for everyone. In the sequel, they do go into some excruciating detail at times but that’s the point of this book. It’s the next level in the virtual world. It’s a quest that only the nerdiest of nerds can pass.
The biggest joy I take out of this series is the philosophical aspect. What happens if you push our internet/tech usage forward a few decades? How does that impact society? What does it do to relationships? These are important questions that need to be discussed, especially as AI is topping the headlines. But he makes it fun, has strong characters and enough action that it doesn’t feel like a lecture and more an exploration (although Samantha gets preachier early on, they tone it back later).
Small cons:
**Small spoiler this paragraph**
There is a running clock element to this story. I don’t think Cline handled this as well as he could have. He’s selective when he checks in on it but then will spend way too long on one planet and it’s hard to tell how time is moving. Also, I think he could have renamed the chapters by how much time is left. In my opinion, he handled time better in Book 1.
**End spoiler**
As always, I think Wil Wheaton did an awesome job as the narrator but I think I have to take a point off for his reading of L0hengrin. At first, she gets the tiniest of southern twangs to help differentiate her and it was great. Later, it’s like they pulled her out of a Mississippi swamp with how thick the accent was. It genuinely confused me and made me think it was a different character.
In summary, this is a different book than the first book. Don’t go in with the same expectations or it will surely let you down. Be open to where it takes you and be willing to push through if the trivia gets too deep. I think the payoff is worth it.

Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

6 Stars for Narration

I tried watching the movie first and it didn’t quite work for me but I had a feeling the book would be better. Worlds better. A fun ride for sure but the lows felt real as well. Great balance.

Narration
Revisado: 11-12-22
This is a great book for the topic. I’m really glad I found it and plan on purchasing the physical copy too. However, after Mark Berg read the first chapter, we get a narrator who reads while whispering. He’s dedicated to saying his words precisely but it’s tough to listen to even after getting through the whole book.

Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Ignore the cynic, buy the book!
Revisado: 06-29-22
I have never written a review based off another’s review before however the top review of this book is following a trend I’ve noticed. Anytime a person wants to discredit a book, they simply say ‘save your money, it recommends index funds.’ This book doesn’t make the claim to give you the best investment recommendations. It’s purpose is to help you understand human nature and how that can work against you in your financial success. It does a brilliant job. I’ve reread multiple chapters and plan on rereading the entire book soon and sharing it with my clients. As someone who works in the financial industry specifically trying to assist people with these issues, I hope more people can see past the cynic and see the true value of this book. Don’t miss out!
