Good not great
Revisado: 02-10-25
I’m a big Nick Cutter fan, but this book wasn’t as enveloping as his past novels.
The narration was good and a majority of the story was top notch. However the whole cat and mouse portion of the story left something to be desired. It felt forced.
Still Nick’s usual ability to make words elicit visceral feelings of bugs crawling across the back of my neck were right up there with S. King, S. Chbosky, and D. Petrie.

Historia
Juliet Bianchi has evolved from a lowly scrap cutter to a fully-loaded, combat-ready dark side operator. Known as "Lucky," she takes high-risk jobs for high-tech upgrades (you know, like weaponry, super reflexes, mind reading, etc.) that make her nearly invulnerable. Juliet is looking forward to some downtime to recover, recoup, and reunite with her mates from the space salvage trawler Kowashi. But after a while, she gets that old itch she can never quite seem to scratch: to infiltrate, and hopefully subvert, the all-powerful WBD megacorporation that created the AI that changed her life.

Solid book
Revisado: 12-18-24
The best part of this addition to the series is that the MC is becoming more human than in the previous book. She’s got emotions that cause irrational behavior that doesn’t lend itself to making her above humanity. She’s more relatable. That being said, she’s still a B-A who does what she does and does it well.

The previous book had the MC just rolling through folks. This story at least had him face a few more scrapes and bruises along with some humbling scenarios.
This series is still fun and I plan on continuing to enjoy them.

Historia
For generations, nobles have gathered at a scenic estate once per year to compete. What transpires there is spoken of only in rumors, save for the prizes. Potent, powerful, and precious; the winners are said to receive a gift from magic itself. Reeling after their loss to Kalzidar, the adventurers from Maplebark can only press forward, following advice imparted by the gods. Their divine directions will lead them on a series of twisting paths, branching between old friends and new challenges, before ultimately pointing at a particular estate on a specific evening.

Historia
When the cultivators came to Earth, they destroyed our entire civilization in a matter of hours. Armies fell, cities burned, and that was before the moon turned red and filled our world with monsters. Now, over a decade later, what's left of humanity slaves under the heels of our Qi-infused masters. The luckiest of us might even become one of them, they say—if we serve the Dynasty well enough and harness the power of Qi. But I want none of that. I'm sick of serving, and I want nothing to do with their world. Instead, I want them to pay for what they did to mine.

A fun book
Revisado: 08-16-24
I thought overall it was a good story...I wasn't a big fan of the misogyny or the fact that the cure for that was a man coming to women's aid (and I'm a dude). But there was a balance to it where the main character was both saved by and dominated by women up and down the power chain.
The narrator brought a lot of the fights to life with a lot of emotion...sometimes though, it was over the top.
The main character was multifaceted which was nice. Unfortunately, a lot of the side characters weren't
Overall, the story was fun and if you listen to it like you would watch a John Wick movie, you won't be disappointment.
