One of my favorite books is The Right Stuff by Tom Wolfe and I've been wanting to learn more about the competing Soviet space program. As it turns out, much of the information from behind the Iron Curtain was classified and it's only recently that the story could be told.

The struggles of competing forces wanting to harness rockets for warfare or scientific study in both nations was fascinating along with compelling details about the trials and errors. Hindsight helps to put the fear & bluffing of advances in technology in perspective.

Definitely from the mind of John Waters, doubley reinforced with the narration by the man himself!

I love his approach of imagining the best and worst case scenarios on top of his actual experience. And the playlist of his suggested soundtrack is aces!

The characters are engaging. I enjoyed the author's style, including jumping back in time to fill in details.

I've been enjoying Brett Goldstein's performance in Ted Lasso and was intrigued by his podcast.

An extra thrill was hearing that Edgar Wright liked The Ruins, a horror movie I worked on!

The events during the summer of 1927, with plenty of context, are indeed quite remarkable! Bryson provides a comprehensive description of the familiar (Lindbergh flies across the Pacific, Babe Ruth has a record-breaking year, Hollywood changes course with talking pictures, etc) and forgotten (Lindbergh's exhausting victory tour across the Americas afterwards, a horrifying bombing of a school, cataclysmic flooding of the Mississippi, early displays of television technology, and so on).

While it's nice to hear the actual author's voice, he does have the untrained speaker's habit of running out of air as he speaks -- making the ends of sentences fade out, which can get buried by the noise floor of my car in motion.

I enjoyed the movie and wanted to experience the source material.

It's an entertaining story with interesting approaches to the challenges of getting caught in a loop.

I've long enjoyed Tucci's performances and relished his sharing his life experiences largely through his perspectives of food.

I had read the graphic novels years ago and enjoyed them very much.

Radio plays were something I've enjoyed off and on for years, and this audio reinterpretation works surprisingly well -- perhaps thanks to Neil Gaiman himself narrating the descriptions of the characters and locations.

I look forward to listening to further chapters.

I work in the motion picture industry, so I'm well aware of the constant rewriting a script goes through (including picture editing) before the general public experiences the final product.

The dynamics of a show runner/producer, network executives, the physical realities of time & budget, a pool of staff writers, and the original writer who creates the first draft can be intriguing.

That this is an infamous script which won a Writers Guild award for its original draft for a beloved episode of an iconic TV series makes this worthy of the deep dive provided.

Yes, Ellison rants for hours presenting the misinformation he's contended with for years while he shares his side of the story -- but this is his work and reputation in display and the purpose of the book/audio production. He displayed the full personality his reputation implied.

His script is performed in its many stages to show the process, followed by perspectives from a range of people in the world of Trek. I was most grateful for D.C. Fontana's bottom line/inside scoop from the writers room about the many revisions to make a workable script balancing the needs of the many powers that be.

In the end, I'm glad to have gotten a multifaceted exposure to the original writer's vision to compare and contrast with the episode I still recall from so many decades ago
