Historia
The most gorgeously theatrical of all Dickens's novels, Nicholas Nickleby follows the delightful adventures of a hearty young hero in 19th-century England. Nicholas, a gentleman's son fallen upon hard times, must set out to make his way in the world. His journey is accompanied by some of the most swaggering scoundrels and unforgettable eccentrics in Dickens's pantheon.

Boldly claiming a space in which people with disabilities can be seen and heard as they are-not as others perceive them - About Us captures the voices of a community that has for too long been stereotyped and misrepresented. Speaking not only to those with disabilities, but also to their families, coworkers, and support networks, the authors in About Us offer intimate stories of how they navigate a world not built for them.

About Us
Revisado: 01-13-22
As a person with an invisible disability there were several stories that I could relate to. I think everyone who knows anyone with a disability should share this book with someone who doesn’t have a disability. Being heard is so valuable today, you may never understand, but hear me and see me, and acknowledge me, don’t dismiss me because I’m different or it may be a bit difficult to deal with me sometimes because I’m different! I have a disability and I’m different, but so are you!

Historia
Big-game hunter Sanger Rainsford has washed ashore on isolated Ship-Trap Island in the Caribbean Sea. On the island he finds the palatial château of General Zaroff and his hungry hounds. There, Rainsford becomes party to a twisted sport. Zaroff hunts too. And his preferred game is human. The trapped and terrified Rainsford is given a three-hour advantage to disappear into the jungle. If he can survive for three days, he will be set free. Beyond that, there are no rules. It’s Rainsford’s need to survive versus Zaroff’s desire to kill. Time to play.

The Game
Revisado: 12-01-21
SPOILER ALERT:
I thought this was going to be a mystery. A game about hunting, not my idea of entertainment. Hunting people is not a very good book to listen to in my opinion. Though there was no graphic violence, the very idea of it was disgusting to me. I listened as far as the point where I learned toe plot of the story then stopped. The narrator was great. I liked the Russian voice he did best. Other than that the book was not good for me at all other than the performance.

Historia
For decades, a quartet of Chinese women who have emigrated to San Francisco gather to eat dim sum, play mahjong, and talk—they call themselves the Joy Luck Club. Over the years, their stories have informed the lives of four daughters who feel the weight of family and world history on their shoulders. With wit and sensitivity, this novel explores the deep, complicated, and sometimes painful connections between mothers and daughters.

Historia
In 1861, young Mark Twain found himself adrift as a tenderfoot in the Wild West. Roughing It is a hilarious record of his travels over a six-year period that comes to life with his inimitable mixture of reporting, social satire, and rollicking tall tales. Twain reflects on his scuffling years mining silver in Nevada, working at a Virginia City newspaper, being downandout in San Francisco, reporting for a newspaper from Hawaii, and more.

Not for modern times
Revisado: 11-02-21
If you like Mark Twain you’ll like this book. Not for politically correct language clearly. I’m not typically an overly sensitive person but the use of the “N” word 5 times in the first 20 some chapters of this book was more than I could tolerate. There are over 80 chapters in total BTW. I realize that in those times that was a regular use in those times however in THESES 21st Century days, it’s not what I call good reading. I can see how my friends would be quite offended by this book! The move was better!!!

When they say the book is better, they weren’t kidding! Shirley Temple did a fair job in the film, she did what the directors wanted, but the book is far better than the film. The narrator is alright. I’ve listened to her before and she takes some getting used to. Her voice has a bit of a whiny tone to it which you have to either ignore or accept and get used to as the book goes along and you done hear as much. By the end of the first chapter I barely heard the whining undertones. She doesn’t do individual distinct voices but you can tell who is speaking. She IS a good narrator in the end. It’s a fantastic story and worth listening to again!

Sandra Burr is my absolute favorite narrator. I look for her in so many of audible books. She is so good. If it’s a British book I seek a British narrator of course. But for an American narrator, Sandra Burr is amazing!
This book is fantastic for all age’s I’ve seen all 3 movies with Katherine Hepburn just so so, with June Allyson & Elizabeth Taylor& Peter Lawford best version, and Winona Ryder good version as well. The book is much better all around though. So many more details and storyline that the movies can’t give you. I live books. This is worth listening to and reading over and over again!
