Suicide is the third foremost reason of death among teens in the US, with more than 8,000 teenagers dying by suicide each year. Of these deaths, four out of five are male and one out of five are female. In other words, there's about 13 suicides per day among children aged 10 to 19 in America. Even more troubling is the statistic that suicide rates have gone up dramatically over the past decade - surging by 54 percent when gang violence was on a downturn - but no one understands why this trend has been so sharp or if it will reverse itself anytime soon.
