If your a fan of any of the inspirations listed in the description, you’ll most probably like this.

It’s Extremely well written, preformed Amazingly, and while anyone who’s a fan of the inspirations can easily pick them out, anyone who has no knowledge of them whatsoever will have no trouble following the story.

Honestly the only con I can think of is that it’s only 3 books long.

The loss of the MC own Rational thinking is a genuine shame, having seemingly regressed severely, ignoring obvious signs and connections. the author thinks this is foreshadowing, in actuality they’re beating the MC over the head with the clues and is clearly being forced to ‘play dumb’ to serve the plot. In effect; they’re calling their readers Stupid by assuming they need such overly obvious clues, making their MC look borderline Retarded by Ignoring said overly obvious clues, and making themselves look as bad a writer as their character looks Retarded and actually worse as the character was decently written and developed in the first book. The thin vainer of plausible deniability is all but gone, and the plot now leaned heavily over the ‘Idiot Plot’ cliff.

I may still give the third book a chance, I’m still on the fence about it. but if this trend continues I certainly will not.

I’ve definitely found better, but I’ve also found Far Worse. I kinda like the setting, I wouldn’t call it special, but it’s a good take on the usual. The system i also wouldn’t call special, but is mostly being used as a way to force the plot on Mc in way that actually isn’t bad. I am however a fan of the MC own special ability, Rational thinking, something that is Vary Rare in Thea’s types of books.

That said The writing… it’s not bad, but it’s Vary close the edge of ‘Idiot Plot’ cliff, any anything that falls in is never seen again (at least by me). It’s managed to avoid that last step over with a thin vainer of plausible deniability on the characters parts. But it is Vary thin, tissue paper thin.

It’s a little inflated by the various quotes and snippets from things. But otherwise I love it.

I love the setting, I love the system design, I love the overall story, it’s all so interesting. But I probably won’t return for the next book, because the MC is a worthless bleeding-heart weakling that LITERALLY being kept alive by the narrative, the system literally pumping him full of power to try and keep this worthless loser alive. The powers themselves are really cool, it’s just Barry Himself I can’t stand, he is the picture perfect version of THE WORST TYPE OF CHARACTER, a bleeding-heart.
Because a bleeding-heart ALWAYS bleeds out, it’s just almost never their blood, and as much as they blame themselves they Never change. They keep giving people who don’t deserve them chance after chance, getting their friends and people they’ve swore to protect killed one by one by the people they shouldn’t have let live. right up until they die, or snap, hard.

I struggle to explain/express myself at the best of times. And now I can’t explain how amazing this book is.

It avoided all the usual pitfals found in early works in the genre. It’s consistent, well written, and while I personally would do things differently in Jill’s (the MC) place, nothing she has done comes off as forced or out of character. And so far, no moments of inexplicable stupidity to force the plot along. Everything flows smoothly, and happens as a proper chain of events.
The performance was amazing, I truly hope they continue to voice the series. Just an amazing job. I’m going to have to look into their other works.

-My only nit-pick
It does feel a little like the big-bad got changed from the initial concept during writing, as bits and pieces of what seemed like a more typical ‘big dumb brute boss’ was originally planned. but the narrative mostly flows smoothly with the alteration. And the BBEG we did get was much better in my opinion.

It’s a little niche, even among LitRPG, but those who would like it will love it.

If you’re into the superhero genre, it’s a decent way to kill time between releases of better series. It’s not bad, the overall story is actually really interesting. but some of the writhing gets a bit grating, Particularly around certain characters. normally I like a level of realism in the characters, it makes them easier to connect to and shows that the writer is actually trying to tell a story and not just sharing their personal power fantasy. But it goes too far, they’re almost too real. Making less like you’re listening to a comic made novel and more like a narrated diary.

The performance is phenomenal. And I actually like how in the later books theirs a different VA wean it shifts to a different characters perspective. And that VA dose all the voices for that chapter. It creates this really neat undertone of how each character sees themselves and the others around them. Witch I thought was really cool, and is something I’ve never heard in any other series.

If you can get it free, it’s a decent listen, with an interesting story. But I struggle to say it’s worth a credit.

CRAP I HATE: (this is mostly me venting)
In the first book, The MC is in the middle of his teens and can’t seem to help but drool over every pretty face he sees. What’s worse is the character is aware of it and like an Actual teenager is utterly helpless to solve the problem. He spend the entire book pinning for someone that barely seems to register his existence.

This problem actually gets worse in the subsequent books, as wear given more perspectives from other characters. Including the girl the Mc was pinning after. who I’ve come to hat, as I am convinced she is a terrible person. She admits she doesn’t really care about helping people she just wants to beat the snot out of bad guys. And she’s an inconsiderate slut. (Although I’m not a vary good judge of relationships or social interactions so I may be misinterpreting something for that last bit)
Don’t even get me started on Alex, that dude is an Idiot, full stop. No seriously, he’s just an idiot. Oh sure he’s got this tragic backstory and a some big mystery regarding his little brother, and a bunch of other crap. But no, west you get down to the core of who he is, like his whole character boiled down. He’s a selfish idiot.

if your looking for an intriguing one shot adventure, this is it. its so well written and so well preformed I struggle to explain it, but ill try.

firstly, a downside; it can drag its feet a little at times, but never enough to really make you want to find something ells to do and come back later. although it can at a couple points come close.
the story itself isn't so unique that its imposable to guess the main plot, but their are just enough curve balls and cards held closer to the authors chest with just enough dots left behind to feel like it was invented last minuet to trick the reader but left the end still largely a surprise,
Lastly, their was really only one point wear I felt the characters wear 'forgetting something' that they could do to end the threat easily, but it was just before the finial climax, so that can be forgiven in my opinion.

It Really try’s to cram ‘Animals are people too’ and ‘meat is murder’ into your face. Almost to the point of it being the primary premise. And with 0 subtlety, They didn’t even Try to hide it.

Buuuut if you can ignore that, and the fact the MC is a gibbering moron, and a few other lesser character flaws from the supporting females that get hammered to death, it’s not that bad. Not vary good either, but still not bad. I’ve definitely read worse.

The narration was as fabulous as Andrea Parsneau always is. Her range of voices is simply spectacular!

I loved the first one. But this one, the writing downgraded sharply at the end. Using ‘Plot Stupidity’ to force the desired endgame. Witch I personally consider the greatest writing faux pas, and an authors declaration of surrender to the frustration that often accompanies writing.
