Wish I had known this was only 1/2 a story
Revisado: 02-09-23
Truly 1/2 a story, nothing resolved, completely interrupted. I’m sure it will be very good when they have finished the book in a couple years.

Historia
Lawyer Andy Carpenter and his wife, Laurie, enjoy walking their dogs, Tara and Sebastian. By this point in their marriage, it’s routine. When out for one of their strolls, their simple ritual isn’t so simple anymore. Across the street, a man is mistreating his dog. Three things happen at once: Andy yells, Laurie runs to stop the abuse, and so does a closer passerby, who so thoroughly beats the owner that both are arrested when the cops arrive.

Not one of David’s better books and I have usually loved his books!

Plot was slow, characters agonizing a bit. BUT I think it was very informative and topical on a way of life I don’t see. Recommend reading but lower your expectations.

Historia
A German Shepherd police dog witnesses a murder and if his owner - an Iraq war vet and former cop-turned-thief - is convicted of the crime, the dog could be put down. Few rival Andy Carpenter's affection for dogs, and he decides to represent the poor canine. As Andy struggles to convince a judge that this dog should be set free, he discovers that the dog and his owner have become involved unwittingly in a case of much greater proportions than the one they've been charged with.

Historia
When winter's done, but spring has not yet fully sprung, much of Alaska turns to slush. Locally, it's called "breakup," and it's a…messy time of year. It's certainly messy for Kate Shugak; between doing her taxes, being chased by grizzlies, and getting shot at by feuding families, she has to cope with an NTSB investigation that hits very close to home. Then, of course, there's the body in the woods. And up at the old mining town. And…being Kate Shugak, somehow she can't leave well enough alone, and begins to tease apart a well-planned and surprising crime.

Historia
Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....

Just discovered this author and WOW I'm in heaven. I've listened to some very good books this year, over 30 of them, but this is by far the best. Love the humor and the Narrator is AWESOME. Dog voice is to die for. Several times I've laughed out loud while reading and gotten funny looks from those around me. Fabulous book!
What did you like best about this story?

Which character – as performed by Luke Daniels – was your favorite?

Historia
Jeanette Garland, missing Castleford, July 1969. Susan Ridyard, missing Rochdale, March 1972. Claire Kemplay, missing Morley, since yesterday. It’s winter, 1974, Yorkshire, Christmas bombs, Lord Lucan on the run, the Bay City Rollers, and Eddie Dunford’s got the job he wanted – crime correspondent for the Yorkshire Evening Post. He didn’t know it was going to be a season in hell. A dead little girl with a swan’s wings stitched into her back. A gypsy camp in a ring of fire. Corruption everywhere you look.

Police Corruption, Brutality and Torture
Revisado: 08-06-10
I love mysteries and the book does have a serial killer in it, but what struck me most about the book is what I think of as mafia style control and corruption over a region. The police are a hired hit squad that manipulate people (beatings and torture) to control a region, which isn't something I enjoy reading about, so for me, the book wasn't an enjoyable read.

A bit boring, esp the beginning and last few hours
Revisado: 06-29-09
My first Reacher book. I found the book too slow, with too few characters. My take on the book is that it is a long 14 hour chase with revenge as the motive. Very minor plot twists, a GREAT 7 hour story, a long long 14 hour audio book. This is one of the few books I wished I would have bought the abriged version. I suspect I would have liked that much better.

The judge looks like a shoo-in, until he outs himself on national TV. Ben calls a press conference for the now controversial candidate. My favorite of this series
Revisado: 03-04-09
As another reviewer wrote, several times I was laughing out loud. Loved this novel, best in the series so far. Much better than I was anticipating. The characters are fun and in many ways fairly realistic. Loving really gets his time in the novel and the situations he finds himself in are very funny. I predicted that the novel would get poor ratings from those who are offended by the politics. It appears the author accepts the concept that the gay lifestyle isn't horrible and that will certainly offend some people. If the concept of gay men doesn't send you screaming for the 1 star button, you will probably enjoy the novel.
