Historia
On June 7th 1907, a ship packed with Russian Jews sets sail not to Jerusalem or New York, as many on board have dreamt, but to Texas. The man who persuades the passengers to go is David Jochelmann, Rachel Cockerell's great-grandfather. It marks the beginning of the Galveston Movement, a forgotten moment in history when 10,000 Jews fled to Texas in the lead-up to WWI. The charismatic leader of the movement is Jochelmann's closest friend, Israel Zangwill, whose novels have made him famous across Europe and America.

Great tour through of the Jewish problem through the lens of one family
Revisado: 04-26-24
One of the most interesting way to write a documentary book, using only quotes.
The initial part is mainly of the circumstances in which the family's story comes to light.
One of the best depictions of the Zionist movement, it feels alive.
The second part of the book is dedicated to the family of the author, in comparison to the first part it falls a bit short. But it is still a great glimpse into an interesting family's history. Which comes to a closure in the end beautifully.

Historia
In the early 18th century, the Pirate Republic was home to some of the great pirate captains, including Blackbeard, "Black Sam" Bellamy, and Charles Vane. Along with their fellow pirates - former sailors, indentured servants, and runaway slaves - this "Flying Gang" established a crude but distinctive democracy in the Bahamas, carving out their own zone of freedom in which servants were free, Blacks could be equal citizens, and leaders were chosen or deposed by a vote.

Quite long winded, but a good historical resource
Revisado: 08-18-18
This book is quite detailed, it really brings you the details of the pirate life and history. It does not quite get you into the spirit of the era due to being too detailed perhaps. All and all, a good read if you want to know what pirates were really like.

Historia
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

Truly a great introduction to Norse mythology
Revisado: 07-11-17
The book introduces Norse mythology quite well, with an added bonus of a Neil Gaiman stylization. This is a rather short book, but it delivers, the stories are facinating and the performance is superb, a great read indeed.

Historia
Academy Award winner Dustin Hoffman gives an understated and exemplary performance of this satiric look at the unreality of American media culture. Chance, the enigmatic gardener, becomes Chauncey Gardiner after getting hit by a limo belonging to a Wall Street tycoon. The whirlwind that follows brings Chance to his new status of political policy advisor and possible vice presidential candidate. His garden-variety political responses, inspired by television, become heralded as visionary, and he is soon a media icon.

The performance is great, the book itself was an interesting outlook on society, if you like modern books it's a good one.

Historia
In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

Historia
Andrew Roberts' Napoleon is the first one-volume biography to take advantage of the recent publication of Napoleon's thirty-three thousand letters, which radically transform our understanding of his character and motivation. At last we see him as he was: protean multitasker, decisive, surprisingly willing to forgive his enemies and his errant wife Josephine.

Revisado: 02-25-16
This is a very comprehensive book, if you like history books this is a great book for you. The amount of detail this book holds is incredible.
Although it might be too verbose at times, the narrator does a great job of moving the book along.
If you are looking for a comprehensive book on Napoleon, look no further.
