Historia
He was a gentle dreamer whose genial bearded visage was recognized around the world, but most people got to know him only through the iconic characters born of his fertile imagination: Kermit the Frog, Bert and Ernie, Miss Piggy, Big Bird. The Muppets made Jim Henson a household name, but they were just part of his remarkable story.

Outstanding Biography + Flawless Reading
Revisado: 07-06-21
I don’t normally write a review by beginning with the narration, but in this case I must. I can think of no one better suited for this than Mr. Heyborne. Brilliant voice work on an excellent Jones biography.
The biography itself was so well constructed, informative and entertaining. Between the writing and the telling it brought Henson to life and gave me so much admiration for the man. I’m going straight to another Brian Jay Jones book right now.

Historia
The entire world knows Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, the teenage sidekick of Doc Brown in Back to the Future; as Alex P. Keaton in Family Ties; as Mike Flaherty in Spin City; and through numerous other movie roles and guest appearances on shows such as The Good Wife and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Diagnosed at age 29, Michael is equally engaged in Parkinson’s advocacy work, raising global awareness of the disease and helping find a cure through The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, the world's leading nonprofit funder of PD science.

Subject is Great, Content is Uninteresting
Revisado: 02-03-21
It pains me to say anything other than praise for MJF, but... this book was hard to finish. It reads like a series of mundane journal entries. Fox himself is the narrator which was a selling point and admittedly nice, however he is at times hard to understand and speaks fast (no listening to this one at anything faster than the regular speed). Still I wouldn’t want anyone else to narrate.
The writing style is nice. Fox has an incredible vocabulary and is full of “folksy” quips and phrases. This is the best part of the book.
I’m a fan of the man. That alone may not have been enough to make me the right audience for this piece. It may be inspiring for those experiencing PD. His work with his foundation is important and worthy. I’m reaching for something good to say, but the reality is that I was continually checking to see how much time was left and hoping for something better on the next page.

Historia
Author Lynn delves into Chaplin's childhood and family, his often controversial relationships with four wives and a slew of mistresses, and his associations with British music-hall impresario Fred Karno and silent-screen star and pal Douglas Fairbanks. He addresses Chaplin's political influences and convictions, and brings a keen, critical intelligence to the meaning of the films, illuminating Chaplin's elusive genius.

Slow moving biography lacking information
Revisado: 01-04-21
At times informative and at times drones on about action in his movies, I found myself checking how much time remained in every listen. There has to be a better constructed biography somewhere. Narrator was good. He speaks very fast so it’s nearly impossible to listen at a faster speed (which I like to do), reminded me of Edward Everett Horton.

Historian Detail
Revisado: 06-09-20
This was an informative history for the real historian, not so much for the casual Disney buff. Tons of detail here showing good research and writing. Narration is best on a faster speed. I can’t say I’m a fan of Kessel’s change of voice when he’s quoting someone (especially Walt). I avoided this one for a long time because of the narrator as I had heard him several times before. I would say this is probably his best. Overall though, it’s a good book and I found interest in it.

Historia
How to Be Like is a "character biography" series: biographies that also draw out important lessons from the life of their subjects. In this new book - by far the most exhaustive in the series - Pat Williams tackles one of the most influential people in recent history. While many recent biographies of Walt Disney have reveled in the negative, this audiobook takes an honest but positive look at the man behind the myth. For the first time, the book pulls together all the various strands of Disney's life into one straightforward, easy-to-listen-to tale.

Very Enjoyable
Revisado: 05-16-20
I did not expect this to be as good as it was. I read a lot on Walt Disney, so I wouldn’t say there was very much new information for me, but it was all laid out very well. The title is a little deceiving and in this case I’m glad. It was a very nice biography of Uncle Walt. And I loved the narrator! He has an excellent expressive voice, perfect for this kind of book. If you are interested in the man, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in this book.

Historia
When Star Wars burst on to the big screen in 1977, an unfailingly polite golden droid called C-3PO captured imaginations around the globe. But C-3PO wasn’t an amazing display of animatronics with a unique and unforgettable voiceover. Inside the metal costume was an actor named Anthony Daniels. In this deeply personal memoir, Anthony Daniels recounts his experiences of the epic cinematic adventure that has influenced pop culture for more than 40 years.

Everything I Hoped It Would Be
Revisado: 02-15-20
Beautifully narrated by Daniels himself, this is a must for any fan of the franchise. He didn’t know it at the time, but there were many of us who, in 1977, had both Threepio and the brilliant performer INSIDE the suit as our favorite. This book is a personal treasure.

Nothing New
Revisado: 01-31-20
The book is just okay. Nothing new here. In fact the title is deceiving; it’s only partially about Walt, and nothing about the mouse. It’s content is good, but the writing is at times juvenile and occasionally self-indulgent. It’s a solid “meh.”

Historia
Broadway takes us on a mile-by-mile journey that traces the gradual evolution of the 17th century's Brede Wegh, a muddy cow path in a backwater Dutch settlement, to the 20th century's Great White Way. We learn why one side of the street was once considered more fashionable than the other; witness construction of the Ansonia Apartments, Trinity Church, and the Flatiron Building and the burning of P. T. Barnum's American Museum; and discover that Columbia University was built on the site of an insane asylum.

I loved this book so much I want to start it over and do it again (and I will). I can only hope the author does more like this. Not your typical history book, this one is full of stories and imagery that transport you to another era.

Historia
For almost a century, Americans have been losing their hearts and losing their minds in an insatiable love affair with the American musical. It often begins in actors and reaches its passionate zenith when it comes time for love, marriage, and children, who will start the cycle all over again. Americans love musicals. Americans invented musicals. Americans perfected musicals. But what, exactly, is a musical?
