Boring and repetitive
Revisado: 10-31-24
The performance was fine. The story was not. I was told this was the worst of the trilogy. I was told this was a filler book to get to the last one. I wasn’t prepared for how unenjoyable I would find it.
It really feels like nothing happened that couldn’t have happened as part of books 1 or 3. There was so much pointless nonsense. I kept feeling deja vu, because, while things were happening, they were just repeats of events that had already taken place. I would like to punch both Mal and Alina for being so asinine and non-communicative.

Some solid advice

I think some of the lists should have been adjusted to work better in audio. Overall, I got some good nuggets of information to think more about and apply to my life.

Cute holiday story!
Revisado: 12-09-23
At the beginning, I worried the whole story would be letters, but it’s not at all. Turned out to be a cute and tidy holiday romance.

There were definitely some scary parts, but they decreased as the book went on. I really liked the twist at the end.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year...but not for Maelyn Jones. She’s living with her parents, hates her going-nowhere job, and has just made a romantic error of epic proportions. But perhaps worst of all, this is the last Christmas Mae will be at her favorite place in the world - the snowy Utah cabin where she and her family have spent every holiday since she was born, along with two other beloved families.

Historia
Harley Merlin can sense people's emotions, among other things. It's how she snagged her first job pinpointing cheaters at a casino. But she has no clue where she got these freakish powers because she spent her childhood jumping from home to home in the foster system, and her father left her with nothing more than a cryptic note. Then she crosses paths with a terrifyingly real monster. Which is when a mysterious and annoyingly arrogant young warlock named Wade Crowley steps in, introducing her to a hidden world of beasts, magicals, and covens riddled with secrets.

Great performance, eh story
Revisado: 04-20-21
The story and relationships felt forced. Good concept, poor execution. The many mentions of people's nose "blades" and "grins slitting their faces" also drove me nuts.

I just can't...
Revisado: 10-19-20
give this 5 stars, because the ending was just so sad. This addition to the series was just so much more serious and dark than the others and I loved the others in part because of how good I felt in Harry's world. But it's still an awesome story.

Really enjoyable short stories
Revisado: 05-19-20
The Crimson Parrot - This was a perfectly lighthearted story. Exactly what I needed. I'd love to read it again in a few years to remember what socializing was like during this time.
The Cape House - DANG, I did NOT see that coming. I *really* liked this story.
Stop Motion - Loved it! I could relate to the MC and really liked how her mystery ended.

Historia
Patricia Campbell's life has never felt smaller. Her ambitious husband is too busy to give her a goodbye kiss in the morning, her kids have their own lives, her senile mother-in-law needs constant care, and she's always a step behind on thank-you notes and her endless list of chores. The one thing she has to look forward to is her book club, a close-knit group of Charleston women united by their love of true crime and paperback fiction. At these meetings they're as likely to talk about the Manson family as they are marriage, motherhood, and neighborhood gossip.

DNF at 67%
Revisado: 05-17-20
I LOVED the premise of this book. And I liked the first half quite a bit. It lived up to its horror genre as well, but more with skin-crawling grossness than scare factor. I really liked watching these women come together to form their book club and circle of friendships.
But then any character development just stopped. Even reversed a little. I couldn't handle reading about how much the women were passive and controlled by their husbands. Patricia's storyline especially, with the mental health twist. It even feels like the beginning of a new book, like nothing that we already went through even mattered to the story.
So, seeing as how my real life is stressful enough at the moment, the last thing I need is to spend another 4.5 hours in a different, but also stressful, and unentertaining universe. DNF and disappointed.
