Historia
Percival Everett's The Trees is a must-listen that opens with a series of brutal murders in the rural town of Money, Mississippi. When a pair of detectives from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation arrive, they meet expected resistance from the local sheriff, his deputy, the coroner, and a string of racist White townsfolk. The murders present a puzzle, for at each crime scene there is a second dead body: that of a man who resembles Emmett Till.

Historia
Teenage sisters Eve and Vera never imagined their summer vacation would be spent in the Arctic, tagging along on their mother’s scientific expedition. But there’s a lot about their lives lately that hasn’t been going as planned, and truth be told, their single mother might not be so happy either. Now in Siberia with a bunch of serious biologists, Eve and Vera are just bored enough to cause trouble. Fooling around in the permafrost, they accidentally discover a perfectly preserved, four-thousand-year-old baby mammoth, and things finally start to get interesting.

The story idea was a good one
Revisado: 03-19-25
The writing is a bit choppy and at times just to blunt. Not enough nuance. And the voices that the narrator does for the girls are a bit irritating.

Hard to believe….
Revisado: 11-22-24
Character development was shallow, and the characters themselves were fairly unbelievable. Pretty formulaic and the twist was a little disappointing.

Historia
When Hannah learns that famed chef Daniel Costello is facing accusations of sexual assault, she's thrown back to the summer she spent waitressing at his high-end Dublin restaurant when she was a young college student—the plush splendor of the dining rooms, the wild parties after service, the sizzling tension of the kitchens. Now the restaurant is shuttered and Daniel tries to understand how his life is now completely out of his control

Great story and one great narrator
Revisado: 11-10-24
McMahon is always good but the other narrator just seemed off for that particular character. A testament to how women continue to be oppressed even in the justice system.

Good… but…
Revisado: 10-12-24
Seems like a long winded response to bad press. There is no doubt that MPW deserves as much credit as he gets, but all that credit does come with a reputation that he seems to be justifying throughout the book.

Historia
There is absolutely no logical reason why I am here. The life trajectory my nationality and class and circumstances portended for me was not even remotely close to the one I now navigate. But logic is a science and living is an art. The release I felt in writing my first memoir, Not My Father’s Son, was matched only by how my speaking out empowered so many to engage with their own trauma. I was reminded of the power of my words and the absolute duty of authenticity.

Always a joy tto listen to Cumming especially on his observations of Americans, specifically our Puritanical and ridiculous views on sex and the extra marital affairs of politicians.

Loved, loved, loved this book..
Revisado: 09-30-24
After 30 years of on-and-off waiting tables between jobs, while in college, getting both my masters and while pregnant, Chisholms tales of working at a Paris restaurant are universal. With a dry sense of humor, a clean but descriptive style of writing, the life of the restaurant hierarchy and the travails of those living off of tips, are beautifully and entertainingly told.
