This is probably the third time through American Gods. Fantastic book - beautifully written. The performance of the cast isn't perfect but still it's a great listen

My older brother read this book as a teenager, and I remember distinctly when he threw it across the room because it scared him.

I avoided it because if it scared my big brother, it would definitely scare me.

Stephen King writes about monsters, yes. He writes about disgustingly horrific occurrances that make our skin tingle. But more than that, he writes about people. In this novel, he captures the innocence and wonder of being a kid - and sadly the nostalgia after becoming an adult. His characters are nuanced and as real as my own friends from 5th grade. Likewise, his villains are just as fleshed out and disturbing as his heroes are inspiring.

Stephen Weber does an incredible job as narrator. I was surprised to find that he hasn't voiced more of King's novels. But this recording could have been much more ardorous had it been read by another reader. Weber's performance sells the book and its narrative more so than any other reader I have experienced. If he didn't win any awards for this, I'm shocked

Buy it. Listen to it. Stay up past your bedtime because you don't want to to turn the light off. Trust me. It's so worth it.

I'm a sucker for a movie or television series based on a good book. But I always prefer to have read the book first. When SyFy announced that they were developing this into a series, I remembered these books from a "Best Science Fiction novels" list.

After reading this twice, and watching the show, I have to admit that the development of these characters and the plot works better on screen. And I don't say that very often. Primarily, the ideas behind the novel are extremely intriguing for those of us who enjoy a good space opera. But the style and characterization are little better than a college writing class. It's fine, really, but it could be better.

Jefferson Mays struck me as an ok narrator. Nothing really bothered me about his delivery, but nothing really remarkable.

I'm looking forward to trying the other novels in the series as well as the series which picks back up in 2017.

I discovered Big Finish several years before Audible. And I'm continually impressed at their production value.

These two Lost Episodes are radio plays with a full cast including Tom Baker and Louise Jameson. Both are based on episodes plot lines that were never completed. Specifically, The Foe from the Future is so well written that it could be a long lost episode with the 4th Doctor and Leela.

Both episodes include behind the scenes interviews and clips of the recording process. It gives us a glimpse of how these wonderful actors bring something like this to life.

If you might be concerned about using a credit for 2 episodes, keep in mind that Big Finish sells this recording for $45 food the download. The stories, performance, and production are completely worth it.

It's nice when the book and the movie are so good

I've never been a fan of Michael Crichton, but I keep coming back to his books. Like many of us, I saw the movie long before I read the book - which is a little unusual for me. The nice thing about this is that BOTH works are great on their own. One does not diminish the other. Spielberg's film has many properties that make it a (now) classic adventure film. But the book is able to delve more into the characters - which in my opinion isn't one of Crichton's strengths. But we don't read his books for the characters. There's lots of action in the novel that, despite having seen the film numerous times, I found myself anxious to find out what was going to happen.

Scott Brick is a great narrator. He reads so well, you forget you're listening to a book instead of turn pages. My only complaint is that he's not an expert on accents. And this may be a director issue, but the character of Muldoon often sounds French, sometimes British. A minor nit-picking of an otherwise excellent narrator.

Back in the '90s, Salvatore's novels were a staple on geek bookshelves. I had not read these Drizzt books, however. Luckily Audible has them available.

This is Drizzt - the early years. Salvatore utilizes some nice world building skills to create Menzobarrenzan. On top of a dark and mysterious setting, we have a number of decently developed characters. Some with unfortunate names, but we will let that slide

As an audio, Mr. Bovine does a fine job of performing each character. I admire his delivery and diligence with each voice he created.

You might call this novel predictable. You might call it fluff, but regardless, it's an enjoyable read - and holds a lot of potential in theme, scope, and depth. I'm anxious to see where he takes it .... All twenty-something novels starring our favorite Drowning exile.

I remember my brothers talking about this book in the early '80s when Dungeons & Dragons was a staple for Friday and Saturday nights. I never picked up the book myself until adulthood when my wife loved the series. "It gets better" is usually uttered in a conversation about it.

So lets get one thing straight: Yes it imitates Tolkien. Many would say plagiarizes, but I might disagree. High Fantasy wasn't exactly a genre that was full of novels at the time. And to quote Michael Drout from the lecture series RINGS, SWORDS, AND MONSTERS: EXPLORING FANTASY LITERATURE, Fantasy authors have to deal with Tolkien in one of two ways. Either they imitate or reject him.

Brooks takes Tolkien's world building and puts his own spin on it, a take that might have been more innovative at the time of publication than it is now. Yes, there's a wise man, yes there's a hero, yes there's a brother (read Samwise) figure, but more than anything, these characters are there to flesh out Shannara's world. Brooks includes some interesting new races - the gnomes are a little different than others you may have read about. The Druids aren't the tree-hugging hippies you might think they are. So there's lots a of potential in the series. If you are interested in fantasy as a genre, you can't deny that this series is successful. If you enjoyed LOTR, then why not try something very similar? Just know what you're getting into.

Scott Brick does an excellent job as usual. His reading is fluid and clear without being cartoonish.

Personally I'm looking forward to how the series will translate to the screen in the upcoming television series. Until then, I will have to come to terms with my mispronunciation of Shannara all these years.

At first I was a little leery about Marsters playing Dresden, but after a few minutes, I was pleased. In fact, I can't read Dresden without hearing Marsters' interpretation of his voice. Jim Butcher's novel is fast paced and an interesting read. The only complaint I have about this particular production is that there were times when I felt that the audio was lacking. But Marsters reads almost like he's speaking directly to the listener without the "reader" quality some audiobooks can have. Listen to the preview clip to make sure that you like his delivery.

INTERVIEW is probably the best of the Vampire Chronicles, and this unabridged recording captures the gothic drama well. Simon Vance is an exceptional narrator, and here he gives Louis a believable and distinct accent. As with most of Rice's novels, the middle gets a little bogged down, and the prose is wordy, but somehow it works for this piece of literature. A lot could have gone wrong with this novel and recording, but overall, it's one for the collection.
