Historia
The summer in question started out with hot, fun-filled days and new friendships. We had just turned thirteen and had our whole lives ahead of us. But that was before her. Before we became known as the Hixton Five and our lives become defined by one night. It’s hard to believe twenty years have passed since she was locked away. But now she’s free and strange things have started to happen. When I close my eyes, the creeping anxiety and fear is overwhelming and all too real. Because the monster is back, and I know she has a score to settle with us.

My favorite narrator did such a good job on this book. She had an exciting story to work with- lots of twists, turns, and suspense. I loved it!

Can’t give this a good review
Revisado: 10-01-22
I love Adam Neville books, usually…but this one was just off. Why an American narrator when the story is set in England. That makes no sense. And for me, it just made it really hard to get into this story. The narrator sets the whole scene for the book, and from the beginning, it was just all wrong. I would love to listen again with a narrator with a British accent. It was very disappointing.

Couldn’t finish
Revisado: 11-18-20
I wish I could say I enjoyed this book, but I couldn’t get past the narrator’s habit of taking enormous, gulping breaths between each paragraph. She spoke so fast, and instead of pausing a little between sentences to take normal breaths, she would wait until the end of a paragraph and then take a huge breath. I listened about an hour. I gave it that much, hoping it would get better but it didn’t, and it got to where I didn’t even know what was going on with the story, because that’s all I could hear. It might not bother someone else, but for me, it was like nails on a chalkboard.

Historia
The dead can't speak to us, Professor Madoc had said. But that was a lie. The body Patrick Fort is examining in anatomy class is trying to tell him all kinds of things. But no one hears what he does, and no one understands when he tries to tell them. Life is already strange enough for Patrick - being a medical student with Asperger's Syndrome doesn't come without its challenges. And that's before he is faced with solving a possible murder, especially when no one believes a crime has even taken place.

Revisado: 08-17-16
I really enjoyed this book. It was so different than the formulaic mystery/thrillers out there these days. The characters are interesting, frustrating, likable, even lovable at times. And the narrator did an excellent job with the nuances of Patrick's condition. It was an excellent listen.

Historia
On a quiet summer morning, 17-year-old American exchange student Quinn Perkins stumbles out of the woods near the small French town of St. Roch. She is barefoot, bloodied, and unable to say what has happened to her; Quinn's appearance creates quite a stir, especially since the Blavettes - the French family with whom she's been staying - have mysteriously disappeared. Now the media, and everyone in the idyllic village, are wondering if the American girl had anything to do with her host family's disappearance.

I had high hopes for this book, but sadly, it did not live up to them. The story was pretty good, but it was a little immature in places, mainly in character development. The narrators were terrible. Their French accents were painful, and they really detracted from the story. I was really disappointed in this one, to my dismay.

Disappointed.
Revisado: 07-27-16
I have listened to other Asa Larsson books and really enjoyed them, but I was really disappointed by this one. The story was interesting, but the narration ruined it for me. The story was obviously translated by a Brit, based on the language and dialect used, but the narrator was about as American as they come, and used an almost southern accent at times for these Scandinavian characters. It sounded ridiculous, and detracted from the typical darkness that this genre usually conveys. I noticed that the narrator is also the producer of this audio book, so I'm assuming she made the decision to narrate herself, and it was not a good one.

Creepy, weird, and really good.
Revisado: 09-25-15
I loved this book. It was very unique. The story was weird and creepy, and like nothing I've ever read before. The narrator was excellent. She added to creep factor of this book. Her voice changes were not forced. They seemed natural, and made the other characters (other than the main character) come to life. I will listen to other books she narrates, and other books by this author.

Revisado: 09-12-15
I was very disappointed in this audio book. I thought the story was interesting, and I wanted to listen, but for me, the narrator was just not right. He is definitely more suited to a period novel. And he was too British sounding. I felt like I was listening to a story taking place in the east end of London. It was very distracting, and made this a difficult listen for me, and I really wanted to like it.

I was not impressed with the narrator. Her "male voices" were very annoying. The story was pretty contrived, as well. It wasn't bad enough to stop listening, but it wasn't a book that I was excited to get back to. I was happy when it was over.

A colossal waste of time and money. The story line was poor. There were too many things going on that didn't all jive. A ton of linguistic errors that were not part of the nuances of a character. It was just bad.
